Further Questions

If you've got any further questions that are not immediately obvious, there are a few places you can go to ask:

  • Technical Problem? Go ask in our Technical Helpdesk.  Or try our IRC channel #alfa-tech.
  • Prefer to chat to some friendly faces?  Our IRC Channel is the way to go.  You'll find the link to the left OR you can log on via your own IRC client at irc.sorcery.net in the chat room #alfa-players.
  • Question relating to one of our Servers? Check out a list of the Server Forums.
  • More Questions?  Feel free to contact the Lead Administrator at any time.

You will find most ALFA members friendly and happy to assist you at any time.

Finding a Place to Play

Finding a good server and a group to play can often be one of the most chanllenging things for new members when coming to ALFa.  Do they have a similar playing style to you?  Do they play in similar timezones?  Will their character's have similar goals and motivations as your own?  Below you will find a few tips put together by some of our members to help you find a good place to start yourself.

One good way of getting an idea of where or what to play is taking a look at each of our servers.  Feel free to check out our server page in the forums for details on each of our current Live servers including some information about the location and their DM Times.

Another approach is to take a look at the different Player Groups available.  Our Player Group page has a list of active player groups as well as a contact detail for each group.

Third, you can check the forums for campaign groups.  These are organized groups of players that meet under the same DM once a week or more and play a more table-top style game.  You can find about about these in the forums OR ask about them in the IRC chat.

Brief downtime on website / forums due to move

The website and forums were moved to a new server today. The downtime was brief.

We are now back up and running, hopefully even faster than before!

UPDATE

The server mentioned above had some load issues. We are now on another one with practically no load.

Moving Some Services to a New Host

Worldgate and the manual downloads will be unavailable for a short time due to moving to a new, faster and more stable host. ETA is uncertain at this point, as there are many unpredictable factors, but we should be done within a day or two at the most.

We appologise for the inconvenience, and ask that you stay tuned for further information.

Note that these changes only affect downloads and worldgate,- the website, forums and vault/DB will contunue to function as normal.

UPDATE 1:

download.alandfaraway.org is now on the new site, so manual downloads should be working again.

We are still working on getting worldgate sorted, stay tuned

UPDATE 2:

Worldgate is now back on line. Please check the download page for the new information.

Note: Existing players, delete your current profile in worldgate and follow the instructions on the download page. Also make sure you are running the latest version of Worldgate (version 1.8)

The move to the new hosts is now allmost complete. The last step remaining is to move the databases to a better server. This will result in some short downtime for TSM, but should improve login/logout lag and general uptime. Stay tuned for more information on this.

UPDATE 3:

The databases have been moved to the new SQL host. With that, everything has now been moved and updated successfully.

Upcoming Password Change

It's been a while since we've had a password change, so this coming Monday (19th of Jan) all ALFA servers will change their password over.

The new password can be found at www.alandfaraway.org/servers

If you have any problems, forums are a good place to start with questions.
