OCTOBER UPDATES

October has seen an upswing in the higher level campaign on the Moonshae Isles as well as a decent start to the game for levels 1-5 on The Silver Marches.  Check Arianna's DMing schedule on the forums if you want to get involved.

The ALFA wiki has been getting some love and updates lately to the classes in particular from Ithildur.    Check out the link here http://www.alandfaraway.info/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=52183&p=631210#p631210 for important class / PrC information.  Also, kmj2587 has been updating our dieties pages and the paladin / clerical orders.  Thank you Ithildur and kmj2587 for your work in this.  If anyone else wants to get involved in Helping the wiki should be available for any member to work on.

2017 UPDATES

It has been a busy  half a year for the Moonshae's server  Lots of new content and areas added ,  Currently  DM'd games available every saturday night   alternating between  lower level content for levels 1-5 and  a Higher level content game that all levels are welcome to join in.

Both Baldurs Gate and The Silver Marches are still up and running well.  Look for possible DM'd games in TSM  come August or September . . .

In recent months  we have also seen the resurrection of  both the  old  NWN1  Waterdeep and Daggerford servers  thanks to  Ayergo and  Stormbringer.   Check the forums for those to find out how to get connected and DM times

July Updates

Midsummer Festival -- AnalogKid is running a Midsummer Festival on our Moonshaes server, running until July 19th

DM Events -- still many events running, though only a couple traditional campaigns.
Adanu has regular DMed sessions on Western Heartlands:

Wynna is running a university-themed campaign on The Silver Marches:

shad0wfax and Mick remain common sights on Baldur's Gate, but they haven't posted any formal schedules.

ACR Update -- we've updated our core ruleset again. Our builders have gotten more tools for building static quests, and our loot bags now adjust their contents to the looting party.

June Updates

Once again this month's update on things happening in ALFA.

DMA Election -- DMA Boombrakh stepped down and SwordSaintMusashi is elected our new DMA.

LA Election -- HEEGZ did not run for another term as Lead Administrator. shad0wfax has taken his place in a very-close election.

DM Events -- a few of our DMs are keeping up their regular campaigns that we'd posted last month. In particular...
Xanthea has a high-level event currently being scheduled for use on Moonshaes: http://www.alandfaraway.info/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=193&t=51412
AnalogKid has regular DMed sessions on Moonshaes:

ACR Update -- new updates to our core rules include better handling of petrification and gaze attacks, with dynamically-calculated DCs on the saving throws and the ability to avoid gaze attacks by intentionally blinding oneself, or by relying on blindsight instead of normal sight.

Tailors -- the old xp_craft based tailor is on its way out; it served for a long time, but its many item corruption and duplication bugs have us giving it the boot. TSM, MS, and BG have all at least started their transition off of xp_craft and onto ACR_Items.

May Updates

A brief rundown of what's been up the last month:

TA Election -- another election came and went, with Zelknolf running uncontested and being confirmed for the next six months.

DMA Rule Changes -- some words on how our DM team will be handling some things posted here: http://www.alandfaraway.info/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=51468

After refinement and community discussion, we have three big changes to be aware of:

  • A DM Team does not have to ask for a PC biography for that biography to be worth experience, but the team still has to accept it.
  • Players may have more than one "Exceptional" PC (such as genasi, drow, favored soul, etc) as long as they get approval from the HDMs where they play.
  • ALFA no longer holds a community-wide policy for "Red Lighting" DMs; HDMs remain responsible for the content of their servers and the behavior of their teams, and any problems with DM team members are either simply discussed with that DM or escalated to the HDM.

DM Sessions -- Mick's haunting in the Elfsong tavern reached a conclusion this month, but we still have events running on all of our servers.
Xanthea has a high-level event currently being scheduled for use on Moonshaes: http://www.alandfaraway.info/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=193&t=51412

shad0wfax has recently come out of hibernation on Baldur's Gate, and the salmon will have a hard swim upstream, though he's posted no events yet. Mick's banshee plot is recently concluded on Baldur's Gate, with no extra event yet announced.

ACR Update -- with all of the new activity we've been seeing on our servers, the tech office has been focused primarily on performance fixes. But that's not all we've done-- in addition to the servers being faster...

  • The visuals on our traps are upgraded, with rays, lightning bolts, shooting darts, and magical explosions added to give the proper impact to our more-spectacular traps.
  • We've made good on our promise to reward D&D-sized parties, and combat XP is now the most per character with groups of four to six players.
  • Persistent hit points and offline resting now cooperate with magic items that change your constitution score.
