Player Groups

Below are a list of Player Groups in ALFA.  What you'll find is a brief description of what the group is about, what sort of characters they're suited for, as well as a Player Contact.  If you are interested in joining any of these groups, shoot a PM on the forums to the listed contact and they will try and arrange something with you.

 Dwarves of the North
Small group of dwarves, of varying alignment and class, playing mainly US evenings, but also the occasional Euro player.  If you're interested at all drop Danielmn a PM.

Team Bane
Team Bane is for Lawful Evil applicants who want to do be more then the normal RAAGH EVIL, but would prefer a more honorable and cultured feel to their evilness. Right now mainly American evenings with some nice DM coverage.  Feel free to contact Vendrin about this one.

Silverymoon University
The Silverymoon university isn't a "team" per se, but has enough scripted content to keep budding wizards (and the occasional sorcerer, cleric, or bard) entertained for quite some time (gold for tuition allowing). A DM'd campaign of some sort is also rumored to be in the near future for the University, so it's a good time to get involved. The primary DM for the University (EADM Wynna) tends to be around in Euro times as well as some US evenings. Plenty of material for RP around orientation, veiled indirect advice for the scripted classes, tradescroll exchanges, and the neverending search for the necessary income to continue the curriculum.  Contact Wynna or AcadiusLost.

Triple B
The Triple B player group on TSM is open to new players of a roguish inclination. We play US East Coast nights and have regular DM support.  Please contact oldgreyrogue for details

House Invincible
A Helm worshipping group, based mainly out of Silverymarches.  Team Helm plays mostly Euro evenings and early evenings US time.  Contact dergon darkhelm for more details.

If you want any general information about Player Groups in ALFA, or have one that is not listed here, please contact Rotku.

IMPORTANT: 1.22 Patch and Storms of Zehir Expansion

Please patch NWN2 to the new 1.22.1588 version.

ALFA is now in transitioned to the new patch, and with it, added the requirement for both expansion packs (Mask of the Betrayer, and Storms of Zehir).

"ALFA 003: The Silver Marches" is up with the latest patch.

"ALFA 010: Baldur's Gate" is also up with the latest patch.

There are updates to most of ALFA's haks available on the main ALFA Worldgate server, see the Downloads section for information on how to update.  It does not matter which you patch first; the game (via the NWN2 autopatcher), or the haks (via Worldgate).  I do not recommend running both patch processes at the same time, though.

Remember to remove any overrides or special UI files before patching NWN2.

The 1.22 patch includes optimization for keyboard-walking via WASD keys, as well as many spell fixes.  Swashbuckler is now an available character class for character creation or multiclassing.  New feats are also available, though the Fey and Fiendish Heritage traits require Extraordinary PC approval to take (send a bio for the PC to your server's Head Dungeon Master (HDM) for approval.

ALSO: with adoption of the 1.22 patch, ALFA will require the Storms of Zehir expansion pack.  If you have not already purchased a copy of SoZ, please do so soon in order to continue to be able to play , DM and/or build on ALFA's servers.

Other additions to the 1.22 / SoZ haks:  Two new tilesets for builders to work with, DM client inventory management tools, boardable ships, equipable offhand items, and more.

NWN2 1.22 patch and Storms of Zehir transition delayed.

The 1.22 patch for NWN2/MotB/SoZ has been delayed for at least a week, perhaps more than two weeks, depending.  Accordingly, we will further delay switching to formal adoption of the second expansion pack, Storms of Zehir, for ALFA.  So, if you don't have a copy yet, you have a temporary reprieve (more than 48 hours, likely less than a month).

We may consider moving to SoZ in advance of the 1.22 patch if it looks like it will be a long wait, but that remains under discussion.  Stay tuned for more updates.

Storm of Zehir and 1.22 patch for NWN2

We will be aiming to move to formally adopting the second NWN2 expansion, Storms of Zehir, on Friday, January 23rd.  Please wait to patch until specifically informed, here and on the forums, in case issues arise in preparing the game content for compatibilty.

If you have not yet obtained a copy of Storms of Zehir, you may still be able to play/DM on the OAS2 and various Beta servers, though these may begin to require SoZ as well as time goes on.

Thank you for your patience, and stay tuned for further announcements on the subject.

NWN2 Patch (and Storm of Zehir): Update Instructions

It is now time to update to the latest version of Neverwinter Nights 1.021.1549.  This patch allows servers to be joined by players who have installed the second expansion, "Storm of Zehir", or those who are still using just the "Mask of the Betrayer" expansion.  Please read the following instructions carefully.

  • Clear your override folder(s) of any content before running the autopatcher! Failure to do so may corrupt the patching process and force you to reinstall the game and start over.
  • Clear any third-party GUI mods from your /UI folders before running the autopatcher. See above for why.
  • Patch your MotB or SoZ install using the NWN2 updater. A reboot of your computer may be necessary as well.
  • Update your alfa_2da.hak to the latest version, 1.54.  This may be done by running the main ALFA Worldgate client, or by directly downloading and unpacking the file from this link.
  • Start looking for a copy of Storm of Zehir to pick up on sale or otherwise.  ALFA will be requiring the SoZ expansion starting sometime around the new year, so you have some time to plan ahead for it.

Please note, while both SoZ and MotB clients will be able to join ALFA's servers, the new content bundled with Storm of Zehir is not currently supported for Live play in ALFA.  So, while you may see Grey Orcs, Yuan-ti, Swashbucklers, and Fey/Infernal Heritage feats in character creation, these will not function properly in-game and should not be used.  They will most likely be fully supported once we transition to requiring Storm of Zehir.

Please report unexplained bugs or problems via IRC and/or the forums, and we will try to deal with problems as they arise as best we can.

New combat XP rebalancing for ALFA's NWN2 Core Scripts

With this last update, the combat XP calculations got a much needed revision, which should help encourage in-character teamwork when engaging in combat on-server.  The new scripted XP system includes the following changes:

  • Equal XP division among nearby party members.  (No more meta-worries about  higher level PCs getting a lion's share of the XP from an encounter.  The amount you see is the amount everyone in your group is receiving.
  • Sliding scale for bonus XP based on party size.  (As your party gets larger, individual shares from a given encounter decrease, but not dramatically.  A solo PC may expect to earn at most about 10% more XP than if he or she was partied up with another PC.  So, while some risk-reward relationship is retained, there is no longer a large disproportionate XP reward for soloing combat.

These changes should hopefully improve the player experience on ALFA003: The Silver Marches, as well as on the Beta servers as they approach LIVE status.  As always, any bugs discovered in the new content may be reported to me via PM or IRC, or to HDM Curmudgeon.

Enjoy, and stay tuned for information on the "Storm of Zehir" 2nd expansion pack for NWN2, out later this week.
