These House Rules apply to the Baldur's Gate server.

Level 1 PCs

Increased XP awards from DMs

BG DMs may grant bonus XP to level 1 PCs.

Regional Bonus Equipment

BG DMs may award a level 1 PC with regional bonus equipment. Level 2 and higher PCs do not qualify for this bonus. BG DMs should use the Regional Feat taken at character creation when looking up which items are available. When planning a new PC concept, players may wish to reference the full regional bonus equipment lists on p. 8-31 of the Player's Guide to Faerun. If you do not have access to this sourcebook, there is an old shorter list in the FRCS on p. 28-32.

Level 2 PCs

Increased XP awards from DMs

BG DMs may grant bonus XP to level 2 PCs.

XP for Biography

Upon reaching level 2 a player may submit a biography of their PC to a BG DM. Upon receipt, the BG DM may award up to 250xp to your PC at their discretion.

Upon reaching level 2 please send a PM to a BG DM that includes the following:

  • Your forum/IRC player name, GSID, PC name
  • Servers: Which server(s) is your PC willing/able to play on?
  • Biography: A short background story.
  • Roleplay: How will you generally roleplay your PC?
  • Adventuring: What role your PC has in a group. Include marching order.
  • Goals: What are your PC's short/long term plans?
  • Factions: Is there a faction your PC loves/avoids/hates or member of?

Permadeath

If your PC dies you should expect for it to remain dead. Players are not entitled to a resurrection of their PCs on BG, though it might happen. For your convenience, here are the IC Rez and Tech Rez policies that members must abide by on BG.

In-Character Resurrection

For reference, see: Raise Dead, Resurrection, True Resurrection, Miracle, and Reincarnate.

Any IC rez of a PC on BG must involve obtaining the spell components and finding a NPC or PC willing to cast the spell. Dying is significant and returning back to life is even more so. It is important that the correct procedures for bringing PCs back from the dead be followed. (Communicating the location of your corpse to any player in any fashion is meta-gaming, is forbidden by ALFA rules, and will not be tolerated. Players should seek a DM for spells such as Speak with Dead [1] if you are interested in determining if a character would wish to be raised In-Character, rather than contacting the dead player character directly.)

Technical Resurrection (Tech-rez)

The DMA standards according to the documentation in Technical Resurrection will be followed.

ALFA has Perma-Death.

For the BG server, all requests for a Tech-rez must be made to HDM shad0wfax via forum PM, or to EADM Ronan if the HDM is absent. If both are absent, requests may be made to DMA Castano.

If a player is seeking a Tech-rez, the player may request any BG DM to document the corpse current location (with a screenshot) and then move the corpse to the DM OOC area while waiting for HDM (or EADM/DMA) response. (Players should never communicate the location of their corpse to other players in any fashion. This is metagaming, and violates ALFA rules; if you're worried that your corpse may be looted, have a DM move the corpse; detailed logs of item looting are maintained.)

Tech-rez requests without thorough documentation are highly likely to be denied; players are encouraged to submit screenshots included an expanded combat dialog window. Examples of valid reasons for a Tech-Rez on BG may include engine failure, mis-tooled creatures, inappropriate spawn points (ambush spawns/infinite spawns), immortal NPCs, illegal CvC/griefing, left-over DM spawns of inappropriate CR in inappropriate areas, or drunken DMs casting Wail of the Banshee in an inn room.

Lag, loss of internet connection, or being AFK in an area where creatures spawn are not valid reasons for a Tech-rez. (Players are encouraged not to solo, as the majority of ALFA Tech-rez requests occur when a character was soloing and "lagged" and such requests will be summarily denied on BG.)

Exceptional PCs

Requests for Exceptional Characters (EPC) must be made to the HDM for approval. Players may only have one EPC at a time, though Prestige Classes Class (PrC) are exempt from this rule. If you already have a valid EPC, do not apply for a second EPC until your first one dies or you decide to permanently retire it.

Note that EPCs are exceptional and the current population of all ALFA servers being as low as it is currently means that the granting of an exceptional race token on BG is unlikely, without extensive background history.

Crafting

Mundane Items

See also: Craft

Mundane item crafting is handled through skill rolls as per the d20 SRD or 3.5 DMG. Armor, weapons, chemicals are represented through Craft Armor, Craft Weapon, Craft Bowyer, Craft Alchemy. The rules for crafting can be found in the Players Handbook (3.5 Edition) (pages 70-71). If you intend to craft something other than what we have available as options, such as Gemcrafting, Stonemasonry, Weaving, or any other craft listed in the PHB, please notify the DM team so we can note which ranks in Profession you have taken. Artisans tools will be required, as will a place to perform the work, consistent with the type of work being performed.

Special materials found in Pricing Documentation can be used in crafting, but may require DM quests to both acquire the special material and also to learn how to work with it.

Crafting Magic Items

The crafting of magical items will follow the d20 System rules. (See the DMG 3.5 edition, or alternatively, use the d20 SRD hypertext entry with the following exceptions:

  • Pricing will follow ALFA Standards (set by DMA) found in Pricing Documentation Note that if an item can not be priced via ALFA Pricing Documentation, that item is forbidden.
  • DMs will ensure that players are within ALFA Wealth Limitations (set by DMA) found in Wealth Guidelines.
  • Crafting progression "per day" will follow the in-game crafting interface that has passed ALFA Standards (set by DMA).
