No repeatable quests, static quests, combat XP gains, component gathering XP gains, or DM XP gains (other than role-play conversations in the crfting area nd not involving combat) may be earned. These House Rules apply to the Baldur's Gate server.

Level 1 PCs

Increased XP awards from DMs

BG DMs may grant bonus XP to level 1 PCs.

Regional Bonus Equipment

BG DMs may award a level 1 PC with regional bonus equipment. Level 2 and higher PCs do not qualify for this bonus. BG DMs should use the Regional Feat taken at character creation when looking up which items are available. When planning a new PC concept, players may wish to reference the full regional bonus equipment lists on p. 8-31 of the Player's Guide to Faerun. If you do not have access to this sourcebook, there is an old shorter list in the FRCS on p. 28-32.

Level 2 PCs

Increased XP awards from DMs

BG DMs may grant bonus XP to level 2 PCs.

XP for Biography

Upon reaching level 2 a player may submit a biography of their PC to a BG DM. Upon receipt, the BG DM may award up to 250xp to your PC at their discretion.

Upon reaching level 2 please send a PM to a BG DM that includes the following:

  • Your forum/IRC player name, GSID, PC name
  • Servers: Which server(s) is your PC willing/able to play on?
  • Biography: A short background story.
  • Roleplay: How will you generally roleplay your PC?
  • Adventuring: What role your PC has in a group. Include marching order.
  • Goals: What are your PC's short/long term plans?
  • Factions: Is there a faction your PC loves/avoids/hates or member of?

Permadeath

If your PC dies you should expect for it to remain dead. Players are not entitled to a resurrection of their PCs on BG, though it might happen. For your convenience, here are the IC Rez and Tech Rez policies that members must abide by on BG.

IC Rez

For reference, see: Raise Dead, Resurrection, Reincarnate

Any IC rez of a PC on BG must involve obtaining diamonds and finding a NPC or PC willing to cast the spell. Dying is significant and returning back to life is even more so. It is important that the correct procedures for bringing PCs back from the dead be followed.

Tech Rez

See also: Technical Resurrection

Any BG DM may perform an immediate tech rez of a PC that they are actively DMing at their discretion.

BG DMs may may not perform a tech rez of a PC that died outside of a DM session without pre-approval. Requests for a tech rez must be made to the HDM. If the PM containing the request is not read within three days the EADM is authorized to approve requests. Tech rez requests without screenshots of combat logs are highly likely to be denied. Take screenshots!

If you are going to seek a tech rez and are worried about someone looting the corpse, you should seek out a BG DM via forum PM and on IRC. Do not metagame your PC's corpse location without attempting to get permission to do so from a BG DM first. Ideally a BG DM will pick up the corpse and move it to an OOC area until a decision is made on the tech rez request.

Alternatively, a BG DM may ask you to have the corpse picked up and moved until a decision is made. If you cannot reach a BG DM for permission it is okay to have someone pick it up for you. Instruct them not to loot the corpse as this may lead to permanent loss of items if a tech rez is granted. You must send a forum PM to the HDM and and EADM any time a dead PC corpse is OOC picked up due to a pending tech rez request.

Exceptional PCs

Requests for Exceptional Characters must be made to the HDM for approval. Players may only have one EPC at a time, though PrCs are exempt from this rule. If you already have an EPC, do not apply for a second EPC until your first one dies or you decide to permanently retire it.

Note that exceptional PCs are exceptional and the current population of all ALFA servers being as low as it is currently means that the granting of an exceptional race token on BG is unlikely, without extensive background history.

Crafting

Mundane Items

See also: Craft

Mundane item crafting is handled through skill rolls. Armor, weapons, chemicals are represented through Craft Armor, Craft Weapon, Craft Bowyer, Craft Alchemy. The rules for crafting can be found in the Players Handbook (pages 70-71) If you intend to craft something other than what we have available as options, such as Gemcrafting, Stonemasonry, Weaving, or any other craft listed in the PHB, please notify the DM team so we can determine where to put your skill points according to your class. If you need further clarification of the rules in the PHB, please notify the team and they will explain them. Note also, that special materials can be used in crafting, depending on the following things...

  • Availability of special material
  • Purchasing of Special Material
  • Knowing how to craft with Special Material - this MUST be learned IG, and not merely upon gaining a level...i.e. because you hit level X, that does not automatically mean you know how to work with a special material such as Mithral or Iron Wood. This MUST be taught IG to your pc.

When involved in the crafting of an item, ALFA standard rule is one roll is made per day on the crafting. You must be involved in the crafting of the item for that day... no making rolls and then going out to adventure that RL day. You must remain stationary where you are crafting. Crafters will need to have tools (PM the DM team and they will supply the tools) and a place to work. For some crafting... a place can be anywhere. A stonemason can shape rock in almost anyplace, while a weaponsmith needs a forge.

Note: The masterwork property can only be placed on an item DURING it's original making, ie. MW property can not be applied months after the original making of the item. The same applies for the Mighty property on bows...the Mighty Property must be done during the time of the making of the original bow, or not at all.

Crafting Magic Items

The crafting of magical items will follow the d20 System rules. (See the DMG 3.5 edition, or alternatively, use the d20 SRD hypertext entry [1] with the following exceptions:

  • Pricing will follow ALFA Standards (set by DMA) found in Pricing Documentation Note that if an item can not be priced via ALFA Pricing Documentation, that item is forbidden.
  • DMs will ensure that players are within ALFA Wealth Limitations (set by DMA) found in Wealth Guidelines.
  • Crafting progression "per day" will follow the in-game crafting interface that has passed ALFA Standards (set by DMA).
