DMs as Players

DMs can have PCs within the following limitations.

Any of these requirements may, in exceptional circumstances, be waived by agreement of the DM and Player Administrators.

Playing Where DMing

Generally, DMs may not play on a server on which they DM. Refer to Rulebook.

It is reasonable for a DM's Player Character transiting a server where they DM to travel to another server where they are not a DM. In such cases, the DM's PC is expected to stay on-server no longer than needed to transit from portal to portal. Where there is an enforced cooldown delay (e.g., travel by boat between TSM and MS), such delay must be honored.

Time Between DMing and Playing On a Single Server

Effective August 25, 2015

All DMs may feel free to play on the server they have previously DMed on, provided the following: They are no longer an active DM of the server in question AND The server has undergone a reset since the DM has become inactive.

There is no other time stipulation required.

Metagaming Own PC Thread

Unless specifically invited to by the moderator of the forum, DMs should refrain from posting in threads about their own PCs in any of the forums involving discussions of in-game behaviour of PCs that Players who are not DMs cannot post. Posting in such a thread without an explicit invitation may lead to censure.

Conflict of Interest

It shall be considered a conflict of interest for a DM/Player to play a player-character that is a part of a player-faction that the DM/Player also DMs for. Correspondingly, it shall be considered a conflict of interest for a DM/Player to play a player-character that is in a current, direct conflict with a player-faction the DM/Player DMs for. Such situations present a conflict of interest which, even if not acted upon, undermines the credibility of the DM and the player’s trust in the fairness of ALFA.

Example: If DM Able DMs the "Death Guild" faction, then DM Able should not have a PC in the Death Guild. If the DM wants his or her PC to join the Death Guild, or that PC is already in the Death Guild, then I would like DM Able to refrain from directly DMing any other PC member of the "Death Guild" faction, or any PC in direct conflict with the Death Guild. Now, say the Death Guild is a Cyric worshipping bunch of blokes; DM Able could still DM other Cyric worshippers, just not those who were part of the Death Guild, actively opposing it, or had some other special relationship with DM Able's PC, Ablesman.

A DM/Player who engages in such a conflict of interest shall be asked to either refrain from DMing the player-faction involved, or to refrain from playing his or her character or to remove said character from the player-faction (or from the conflict with the other player-faction) the DM/Player is DMing for. If a DM/Player refuses, they may have their playing-privilege suspended.
