PRC - The Player Resource Consortium in ALFA2?

Post by Blue_Sphere »

I am curious if there has been any discussion among the staff referring the Player Resource Consortium. I again am not sure which hakpacks are included in ALFA so forgive me if this has been discussed.

Again as of now it is only in alpha stages, but I am sure it will reign just like it did in nwn1. The choice of all official 3.5 classes and races would allow for more customization for each character, and also allow for new story arcs and ideas.

I know that it has been mentioned, probably by WW, but haven't heard of anything since... at least at my access level. :)

While I like the PRC - some of it a lot - there are inevitable technical difficulties when you add so much outside code (aside from balance and gameplay issues). There may also be multiplayer problems with some aspects of it, as with the current PRC (e.g. psionics and lag), and further issues with character-creation.

Those drawbacks are, however, offset somewhat by a clear intent in ALFA NWN2 to take advantage of as much community content as reasonably possible.

So, at the moment, I'd say... I don't know.

If you've a particular personal interest or expertise in reviewing community content for ALFA's use, then I know that would certainly be welcomed. Our Tech Admin, Ronan, is currently on a much-deserved holiday, but his stand-in, ç i p h é r, never gets enough PMs sent to him...

My opinion only:

It is a very interesting package, but it is also still being developed. Some of the concerns i see are having a dependency on them to update this package after every version of NWN2 and incompatibility issues with Forgotten Realms lore (lots of non-standard stuff in there).

If some of you have time, can you install the present version and check it out, see if it's actually 'worth' adding? Lots of interesting stuff there, but if it isn't all that good, what's the point, and we can't really tell just how good, or bad, it is until we rummage through it.

Well for that purpose I think it would be best to test with NWN1.

I personally have used it with nwn1 and I really enjoyed the extra features. The issue with nwn1 though was that you had to use a separate program to create a race and prc class.

This is not so in nwn2, which is why I think that it would come to be a good idea, since the features are a blast, its based entirely on cannon and 3.5 books (word for word, not little twists like nwn2 has right now), and I think it would allow for more immersion since there are so many different things to be!

There are probably a few things we could wipe from it at least. It's worth lookin' at I'd say, when the Tech Admin is around again to review it and pick it apart on the technical side.

For the record, my position is simply this: if you guys want it, we'll add it, provided the content is approved by the standards team and is technically feasible to implement in ALFA (no conflicts with anything else).

On that note, would anybody like to volunteer to test it? Preferably more than one tester would be great.

As it's still in Alpha, there's little to gain from extensive testing at this point.

Also, if the implementation is similar to the NWN1 PRC, then there are some aspects that will not be included in ALFA, chiefly the Epic content, the non-FR content, Spellfire, Psionics, some of the PrCs, and many of the races. Feats, spells, some base classes, some PrCs, and some races are where it's at, as far as ALFA is concerned.

Oh, i don't know. Psionics might be rather fun, if it is done right.

NWN1 PRC Psionics is effectively unusable in multiplayer because it generates phenomenal amounts of lag. If the implementation remains the same, it will never work in ALFA.

pfft, that's not lag, that's mind control. :P

Seriously though, if the problem remains in the NWN2 variant, i would agree. If it does not, then we would need to determine whether it is viable on it's own merits. << common sense >>
