The key feature of the monk is her ability to fight unarmed and unarmored. Thanks to her rigorous training, she can strike as hard as if she were armed and strike faster than a warrior with a sword. Though a monk casts no spells, she has a magic of her own. She channels a subtle energy, called ki, which allows her to perform amazing feats. The monk's best-known feat is her ability to stun an opponent with an unarmed blow. A monk also has a preternatural awareness that allows her to dodge an attack even if she is not consciously aware of it. As a monk gains experience and power, her mundane and ki-oriented abilities grow, giving her more and more power over herself and, sometimes, over others.

Alignment restrictions: Any lawful - a monk's training requires strict discipline.

    • Ex-monks - A monk who becomes non-lawful cannot gain new levels as a monk but retains all monk abilities.

Ritual and reverence have many expressions. The gods find use for strength of arms as well as divine spell casters. Within the ranks of these physical champions may be found similar divisions, extremes, really, of martial disciplines. Monks are masters of unarmed combat, looking inward to their centers for focus—their ki — even though they may gather in monasteries. They find their goals in following the tenents of their faith… aiding, converting or conquering in their god’s name.

A monk PCs bring with it a heavy roleplay requirement in ALFA, as much of what defines them cannot be coded. Please RP the order of a monk by researching the facts that a devoted member of such an order would know, including history, ceremonies and expressions of faith

Multiclassing Restrictions for Monks
Monks who multiclass are restricted in their ability to advance again within these classes, having usually lost the focus on their calling necessary to either role. Only canon multiclass orders of Monks will be allowed to multiclass freely in ALFA, and the PC must abide by all restrictions of the order as listed in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Faiths and Pantheons or the Faiths and Pantheons web enhancement. Further, all multiclass Monks of these freely multiclassing orders must carry a no-drop item created by their overseeing DM listing all RP guidelines and both OOC and IC restrictions. Only FRCS, F&P and F&P Web Enhancement orders will be allowed to freely multiclass. Any PC multiclassing a monk outside these orders may not return to leveling in either Monk after leveling in any other class.
