Re: New group on TSM - Rivermoot
No worries there, I understand the appeal, and more importantly, the allure of a fresh start. If I had any semblance of conducive playing times I might be tempted to try a new character myself, but what's keeping me from playing has little to do with my PC and much more with my weird windows of availability, that just don't seem to mesh with anyone on a regular basis. Even my attempts at some asynchronous RP have so far met with little success, but that's life.Galadorn wrote:[[Yes, Veilan, you now have full rights to beat the shit out of my hypocritical ass. I deserve it for doing this, but things really HAVE changed around here...and this is far enough away from Bu and his affairs that it just seems like a great opportunity to play a PC with risk again, sometimes it's tiring being immune to death]]
And hey, if it works for some people and provides them good game and chances to provide in neat things like this, I'm not going to judge. My own preferences might be different, but I acknowledge that the old model just won't ever have enough people to work again.
So, looking forward to meet your new dude IG (when the stars align).
Cheers,
The power of concealment lies in revelation.

Yea ok, so make a guy. My play times are totally erratic too - odds are we'll meet.

Re: New group on TSM - Rivermoot
Heegz and I have chatted a bit about this new group and the kind of game that he's looking for. We'll see how things go for say, the next couple of weeks as I've had a sudden change of schedule that opened things up for me until the 24th or so.
If nothing else there will be a pile of fresh new corpses and plenty of opportunities for people to try new concepts over the next couple of weeks.
In case it's unclear, this is going to be a fairly harsh game; there is an undead infestation mechanic in place in certain areas that should grow and spread if left unchecked. In addition to whatever nasties are being spawned by this mechanic, I will be attempting to add elements to up the grit/horror factor - hopefully nothing insane to start out, but after the discussion and some thinking through stuff, I'd like to try and reintroduce some of the feel of ALFA1's level of grittiness as much as I can manage.
It does NOT mean you have to min/max your characters (in fact I would strongly discourage such); an average or even highly unoptimized build can do fine if RPed smartly, and the meatiest PG build will die if played stupidly; in fact the likelihood of dying will probably be higher for the extreme beefies with low mental stats, 'cause that's a trope as well as game balancing. Having said that, chances are the overall experience will be better if your PC is actually pretty decent at doing some things, because... that's how things work.
On the plus side, if you'd like to claim the bonus regional equipment per Player's Guide to Faerun and come up with an IC reason for having that item, I will be happy to oblige. This of course will mean that lucky PC's might find some nicer pickings if they find corpses (and manage to escape after looting said corpses). People caught looting their previous PCs will not only face the usual consequences, but their new PC will be summarily killed by horrors and turned into undead, really nasty smelly undead that inspire mockery more than horror.
I am quite happy to hit the pause bar if you'd like to emote choice girlish screams and such during the massac... er, battle, as well as various IC communication, attempting things not possible with the NWN2 combat engine, etc. I do make honest effort to support every well thought out use of spells, skills, abilities, etc though not 100% per 3.5e rules; shapeshifting/polymorph in particular I would need to talk to you in advance beforehand. I'm considering a very ugly hacky way to make partial flight somewhat possible during game engine combat, but don't be surprised if your flying PC attracts extra attention from foes or if your soaring dreams are shot down by the game engine limitations, DMA, or HDM.
High risk means (relatively) high reward (potentially)... while mindless undead traditionally rarely carry much treasure, if you manage to succeed in getting past the grunts, you might find some pleasant surprises. The town of Rivermoot and possibly the Confederacy will also take note of heroic deeds... if they haven't been overrun.
There are currently some technical glitches that may lead to oddities; if you see hostile NPCs/mobs acting as if their AI is broken please report and attempt to disengage from them.
That's what I'm aiming for; this is a pretty different approach than what I'm used to, I've no idea whether it will work well or not, pretty low bar to start out I'd say. Don't say you haven't been warned.
Welcome to ALFA, good luck on your second character.

Re: New group on TSM - Rivermoot
I think there are several front line types already, and the stealthy PC type is so far non existant as far as i'm aware.
Also, thanks Ith for considering taking up some things. Looking forward to seeing you all in game.
I started up my second PC for this last night and am ready to go.
[edit]
I'd just like to add that i'm really excited to see others interested in the horror plot idea, and thanks again ith for picking it up and running with it.

Re: New group on TSM - Rivermoot
I have also written my new PC's background and appearance, logged into TSM last night to make my PC and walk around buying basic equipment etc (FUN!), until I realised I had not logged into TSM for so long there was 400 megs of haks that needed downloading... UGH! So, at 8-11KB/sec, I decided to watch a movie and leave the computer up all bloody night since it took around 11 hours to download.... heh
Welcome to fesking China WiFi.
I do hope my Dwarven Fighter will be welcome, from Ith's post above, whether there are "enough" front line fighter tank types already or not, I don't think one more would not be welcome?
Others, and Ith especially, if you don't want me involved, let me know. I'll live. If you do let me play, I will not disappoint. And if I do, i'm always open to constructive criticism from others.
Very looking forward to playing something other than Bu... since 2010. oof
EDIT: I am easy. If this motley and destined to die group really needs something (Rogue?) i'd be happy roll one.. or even Ranger stealthy?
EDIT 2: Where might I find the documentation about the starting equipment? Anywhere easy?
EDIT 3!!: Or, I could also very easily switch gears just slightly, and make initially proposed/desired Dwarven Fighter... a Dwarven Cleric! Which would be I assume very appreciated. Ya can't have too many healers.
Cheers,
~Matt

Re: New group on TSM - Rivermoot
I've got a rogue-- probably going to be rog 1/bard X. I doubt we'll miss the sneak attacks, and I'm sure you bunch of front liners will like an inspire courage when we're in the shit. Focused on survival; not keen on taking moral stands about anything. Mostly written to be a foil to the paladins who I knew would be there.
I don't know if there's any clerics in the pile yet.

Since you are apparently not reading PMs I have no choice but to post here.Galadorn wrote: Others, and Ith especially, if you don't want me involved, let me know. I'll live. If you do let me play, I will not disappoint. And if I do, i'm always open to constructive criticism from others.

Galadorn, I would love to talk things through with you so that we can at least be cordial enough that I can play with/DM you, but I cannot DM someone who thinks so little of me that they will pull avoidance shenanigans when asked to talk things through. As things stand with your refusal to even try to communicate, I cannot effectively DM or honestly, trust your sincerity at this point.
ALFA's small enough at this point this kind of bs should really be worked through, like we're all adults. As I said multiple times already, I'm in irc. #MS_adventuar I think is a reasonable place if you'd like more objective input from the DM and players that were on when the incident happened. If you'd like to get the PA involved I'm open to that as well. Bottom line is I'd like to work things through, but if you absolutely refuse to even try, I can't reasonably be expected to DM you. I think that's a no brainer, honestly, as player/DM relationship requires a certain amount of trust and expectation of 2 way communication.
That shouldn't stop you from rolling a new PC however; my window of having a lot of free time is about 2 weeks, after which I'll probably be down to 1x a week. Given your timezone you can safely continue to ignore me at that point.
