how-to-keep-girls-in-your-gaming-group

Post by puny »

Great article, pretty fun from the "lol w00t, omfg seriously" point of view. but also a few great advices that some of my tabletop groups should read, and most people i know are pretty respectful/sensible/sane/equal, and fails yet, or failed befor.. doesnt hurt anyone to read through if a few moments can be spared, for lols or

I daresay I was writing the same thing until I saw you beat me to it.

but seriously, does this mean that Tarin getting knocked up by a randy devil is off the table? I was so sure that would be the bestest plot ever. It was gonna kill him on the way out, and then a vampire was gonna save his life. With undeath.

“Wow? WTF? Do people really DO that? Who are these people that need this advice?”

Uhh ... yeah. Anybody that needs the advice offered needs to stop gaming and get the hell out of their parent's basement. I find it hard to believe that this was not entirely a tongue in cheek stereotyping of male gamers.

But when read with that in mind, yes, it is quite amusing!

Looks to me like over here we have a group of 30- and 40-somethings who forgot how it's like to be a teenager, and how smoothly midex boy-girl social activities tend to go.
What I hazily recall of the awkwardness back from those years, such social 101 rules seems totally called for. Hopefully not absolutely necessary, but totally good for thought.
But then again, maybe I was just a nerd unlike you smooth operator cool kids :P

Browsing through the article quickly, i noticed that I could just as easily change all "women", "girl", "her" etc. to their male counterpart and it would be equally true. In my games I treat every player equally bad so there wont be any whining. Well, about genus-related issues anyways..

In short, you all suck.
pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.
