So, ALFA chat ....

Post by Wild Wombat »

When I join ALFA chat I notice that some folks are always there. Now, I'm curious how you guys do it, but my main concern in this post is haunts. I'll start paying more attention, but I swear that Zicada, knightlight and Mord are remnants from ALFA's past.

I mean, I know that Burt is alive because he posts once and a while (and, also, the sheep are still running scared), but Zic, KnightLight and Mord? Is there some sort of legacy in alfa chat? Ghosts in the machine?

Show me that you are alive, guys. PM me. Or, here is a novel idea ... roll up a PC and RP with me!

#alfa-players is the new irc group.

#alfa belongs to zic and is made up of grumpy drug abusers.

Seems like zic is trying to sell his stuff on alfa-players since that is where I have seen the miscreant!

*coughs*

Still room in-game for grumpy drug abusers, no matter where they hang out to chat. Roll up toons and see all the pretty colors that a fire ball makes. Watch the trails that your mage PC's finger makes in the air as he or she sketches out a spell! ;)

As for how they do it they use Linux (or other unices) and those two programs:
- screen ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Screen );
- ircii ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IrcII ).

I used Chatzilla. It has a lot of auto-connect programs. useful pings when people say your username, or pm you...

I won't be using IRC any more. Too many 'issues'.

FWIW, nobody cares about irc debates/arguments/discussions. The regulars who are always there move on pretty quickly to other topics and aren't really that worried about how things went previously.

It is far, far less hostile than it used to be, while still (thankfully) retaining the feeling that we can discuss anything there.

Come back to us. They all come back in the end :D

Out of my decade and a half of being on the inter, I've only ignored two people on forums and irc. Zicada is one of them. I suggest you do the same if you want a better iRC

After reading both charcter descriptions I would like to urge Adanu to take on an RP challange.

Burt seems right (and this pains me to say).

We recently had a discussion about IRC moderation, and it seems that the current climate is healthy enough for an online community, especially considering the veracity of normal person + internet anonymity = total f*ckwad.

If there is a specific issue, don't hesitate to alert the mod team to it, but by and large I'm unconvinced there's a pressing problem caused by "ghosts".

Of course, WW was only trying to tease them into gaming, so don't feed the troll ;).

Cheers,

Actually, Hialmar answered my question ... I really was curious how in the world some folks manage to always be there!
