Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
Word spreads among the Moonwells of Gwynneth that a gloomy and unnatural menace born of the seas threatens the south-western coast, and possibly beyond. Wardens of the wilds are sent from the Toadstool Thicket Moonwell, the Bukhara Spires Moonwell, the Corwell Grove Moonwell, and even the Tetauctaa Moonwell to embark upon solitary patrols along the shores of the Western Straights, the Straight of the Leviathan, and the Firth of Corwell to observe events. Presently the onus is on observation and the collection of knowledge regarding the threat rather than direct intervention, notwithstanding events at Pontswain where direct and immediate intervention was requested of a Hin Seedsower of the Corwell Grove Moonwell by the Caer Corwell militia.
Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
whispers around the cantrevs has been growing loud as recent news of the horstall attack speard trughout the islands of MS.
rumours speak of black raiders allong with a few orcs and other black raiders that led undead and took capture of around 100 man woman and child form horstal as they raid it.
word also speak of a brave merchant ship captain that saw the raid and came to aid his Ffolk bothers from the north shore untill more help came from kingsbay. still no connection is made though some say the pirates teamd up with orc necros and some speak of high organization of northman pirats.
one thing is certain the seas are not safe

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
The Town Crier in Cantrev Pontswain can be heard delivering the word about an unusually tall Ffolk woman guard named Gerde who seems to have gone missing.
Some of the other guards report that for the past tenday or so Gerde seemed to 'not quite be herself' to those that knew her well...
A few people in town also have been whispering rumors of dangerous creatures recently spotted roaming somewhere in the Dwyvach Salt Flats, which lie southeast from the Cantrev, and a band of adventurers who departed in that direction, and returned not long after looking somewhat disgruntled. The group stayed only long enough to rest and recover before departing to return towards the east.
Meanwhile... word continues to spread about the presence of feral 'cannibal raiders' on the western part of the isle of Gwynneth, with even a few being spotted further inland away from the shores. The security of Corwell and other towns continue to be stretched thin as their ranks are deployed to deal with these and other threats.

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
The evening at the Hobbits hole tavern is filled with patrons discussing the latest rumors of horros around them, and some are solely there for the camaraderie and solace from those said rumors.
As the evening grows late a lonely hin walks into the tavern, usualy he is clad in metal and bolsters a big smile to most he meets. But there is something different about his eyes this evening.
He wanders to the farthest corner of the establishment carrying a lute.
He sits down by the wall and tries the stings of the lute without apparent skill with it. Soon mismatched notes can be heard along the usual murmuring of the tavern.
A slight blush rises to the hins face as he tinkers with the strings, trying to find something clearly outside his grasp. A few patrons raise their voices to drown the broken chords and tunes, but they keep tirelessly flowing along the taverns sounds. Just as a few patrons turn to act against the hins horrid chords something within the notes change.
His fingers seem to grasp a harmony of sorts along their path over the strings, not the harmonies of bards, not those of ballads. The notes seem to resound with a broken sort of truth, a primal truth that most in the tavern seem to recognize as their murmurs slow. The notes are those of sorrow, of true emotion without real form. His composure and strength seems to melt away with the appearing tears as the music starts to slow down. Soon there is no sound within the Hobbit hole, only a tranquil peace as the patrons start looking to one another and releasing sorrows that has been held back too long.
And by the wall in the corner sits a hin, his heart laid bare before all those that listened. And as they find comfort and strength from one another his smile returns.

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
The word spreads around Corwell warning people to avoid the waters of Corwell Firth off the shores and docks; apparently there was a report of an aquatic skirmish between horrifying fish-like humanoids and adventurers during an attempt to rescue a swimmer who'd ventured into deeper waters.

To make matters worse, rumors say that a multitude of sharks apparently were drawn in later by the blood shed during the skirmish, leading to a second battle during which a shark 'as large as a dragon' attacked and swallowed several adventurers whole before finally being killed.

The rumors also mention that a group of halflings bravely rescued a heavily armored man from drowning during the battle. While the halflings and other adventurers begin to be looked at rather favorably by many townsfolk, concerns increase about the state of the current crew of soldiers in town, many being older peasants who've had to step up due to the best of the ranks being deployed to deal with the raiders to the west. Regardless, some folks fear that dangers such as these attacks are simply beyond the capabilities of most of the current guards...

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
A rumor in Caer Corwell has the guard up in arms as they are already taxed from the Northman raids. The MacSheehan Ruins are overrun with undead.
This message was received tied to a rat's tail from the hand of Father Lyons of the temple vault of Kemlevor there. His fate is unknown but he detailed the faces of his captors with strange slit masks.
The scroll declared, "Temple, overrun, dwelve deep!"
The seneschal of Caer Corwell is offering a reward to whomever bands together and deals with this threat and manages to recover Father Lyons.
(All are welcome to try this dungeon crawl. This is a CR 1-3 area in the exterior ruins then the CR progresses on the second level to 4-7, and in the deeper levels up to 10)

A Hin, dressed in a Red coat and a black tricone hat was seen talking to the guards at the east gate of Corwell, urging everyone to "stay tha fook away from tha fooken demon-infested cunt hole!" and that he barely made it out alive from being attacked by some sort of big-ass spider or something. He seemed quite adamant on making sure that they dont let anyone out of the town who is heading to MacSheehan Ruins without warning.Cloud_Dancing wrote:The scroll declared, "Temple, overrun, dwelve deep!"
The same thing can be noted entering or leaving Cantrev Koart and Kingsbay as well.

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
A damaged schooner recently put in to port at Skaug. It had significant hull damage above the waterline and some stress cracks at the base of the mizzen mast.
The crew going ashore spread rumors of surviving an attack by a giant sea devil. Some praise a blue skinned "genasi" for slaying the beast, toher curse him quietly, muttering that it was the genasi's arrival that brought about the attack.
Rumors alos have it that one of the halfling passengers was able to negotiate purchase of the vessel from the Captain while at sea. The new owners are said to be seeking shipright repairs in port Skaug.

cantrev winigate was raided!!
word around corwell that the raiders came from three sides, small forces from the salt flats, a few boats from the south shore and another force from the east roads.
it seems that corweel sends aid once they learnd about the raiders plan. another force led by one the grove druids that should have been aiding from the east woods never showd up but with corwell aid and the prepard local the raid faild.
meanwhile at koart, word about a bunch of hins following a mad man that storm in to town screaming cousing panic around the cantrev. the man was easlly taken by the guards and the hins said something about a lost friend in the woods.
the guards at koart advise travellers not to head south twards the south shore and the castle of skulls are.
more reports are comming about what seems to be perhaps one of the black sails bases near that castle.

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
The word is that a small lass has been seen in many of the taverns of Gwyneth, hawking Lowhill Ale, offering free samples and promising that next year the vats will be overfull with the wonderful brew. She has even been seen in the less common places discussing with tavern owners and bartenders the tasty beverage.
Rumor heard from one of the sailors was, that he spied the lass after she left his ship in Calidyrr even going to the dance hall to share samples and take orders. Of course then the sailor's tale become a bit wild claiming the girl was asking for dance pointers, trying on costumes and about picking up some coin on the side...

the town square in Corwell have the last week been visited more than once a day by a young lightfoot minstrel i blue, travelworn clothes. She've stayed for an hour or so, playing her guitar, and sometimes also singing songs from the south in the corner of the square with a little piece of cloth layed out on the ground infron of her and each approaching individual have gotten for each day, more hungry and more hopeful looks from the blonde halfling.

Re: Tavern Tales & Rumours
Strange stories begin to circulate among some of Gwyneth's taverns, based ostensibly on reports trickling in from the skirmish fields of western Gwyneth... the wild stories go something like thus:
"Bloody hells, I's not exaggeratin' ye fool! Tha's what I 'eard! One day, a fight 'tween our troops an' those barbarians, corpses litterin' the site... the next day, all o' them corpses be gone, the place picked clean as a paladin's holy arse! Way too clean to be done by wild animals and such. 'appened more than once too, from wha' I gather!"
