2014 Ab Off
Re: 2014 Ab Off
I have run a paltry 44 miles thus far this year and expect to hit a mere 60 or so for the month of January. Unfortunately, most have been treadmill miles as its damn cold outside. Ive done a bit of lifting, but not all that much. Despite my efforts in cardio, I am seeing no results currently as I am still puring the beers and bourbon freely and oftenly into my gaping mouf. I dont expect to see any results until the weather and amount of daylight hours improves in order for to begin truly outrunning my poor nutrition with 35+ miles of outdoor running per week (like a Kenyan with lions in hot pursuit).
Over and out.
Over and out.
Heero just pawn in game of life.

Three weeks later... and phase 1 is done and dusted. Roughly 1 month of re-adjusting to actually doing stuff. It has been a very rewarding experience. Despite how it feels at the time. I have certainly blown out the cobwebs. Stronger (still weak), faster (still slow), resolute (pretty pleased actually).
My belly fat is like a tide receding. Leaving behind glorious abs'ses. Two and a half sets now. The rest will be damn hard to get to, as they is where most of the fat is held. Damn genetics. Thanks dad!
Anyhow. Phase 2 is 4 weeks of targeted exercises. Less all over body stuff, and more intense area specific exercises. Arms, shoulders, back, legs, guts - etc etc. Offcourse Dusk still has me out running and other stuff as well.
Oh, i have started eating better as well. Equal parts veges, good carbs (brown rice, sweet potatos), good proteins (chicken breast, tuna). Breakfast is rolled oats, and some nuts. I eat 4-5 times a day, cooking my food in bulk. 20 meals, took about 1.5 hours.

Lost 17 pounds plus my scars have healed enough to do crunches again. On low-no carb paleo diet.

They're better. How are yours?
Re: 2014 Ab Off
Another month (4 weeks) gone. I may have fallen off the wagon during the last week. Havent been to the gym, or been eating well. Chest and shoulders have grown, as has strength and endurance. No more abs to speak of.
Monday is a new week though!
I have decided to stop going to the gym, and concentrate more on calisthenics/body weight exercises and running. I enjoy them more, and appreciate the idea of being "functional" over "built". If that makes sense.
Plan is to get in a run and exercises each day, i'll allow myself a rest day each week. If I feel I need it.

Fitness? In ALFA? Among die-hard computer gaming nerds? This IS a new ALFA.
That said, I started seriously running back in November, 2012, and I now typically run 3 or 4 times a week, for 5 to 7 miles at a time. Last Saturday I did 10 miles just for fun because it was a beautiful day. Later this year, I will do my first actual competition - a half-marathon trail run through the Marin headlands. It feels really good to be active again - I haven't done anything really physical since leaving the army. Back then, I could do 90+ pushups in 2 minutes, around 65 situps in 2 minutes, and run 2 miles in 12 minutes. My running has come back, but ... not the pushups. Situps are slowly returning, but ... slowly.
Anyway, good for all y'all engaged in getting in shape. Now, if I could just get a little better about what I eat, I might actually get really healthy.
