If I recall correctly, some of our party got stuck at one end of the Overland Map tonight, but we AT'd into the next area along with everyone else, so it doesn't strike me as life or death.

Oh, and the Bug Forum for TSM is listed further down the Forums page:
Live Server Forums >> 03 The Silver Marches.

One day, the travel map shall be done away with!

And there will be much rejoicing.

The travel map needs redone, not done away with. It needs the random encounters removed. It needs to be a basic, walkable OLM with points of interest being ATs with map points from the OLM.

We dont need more BG < --> Nashkel walks of boredom.

I agree.. back in the beginning stages of NWN2 you could walk from Silverymoon to Quaervaar without ever going to High Hold and explore the maps.

The only merit I can see to keeping an overland map is the 'one size fits all' approach, and that would only hold merit if it were reliable.

It isn't. The encounters randomly send you across the map to in the middle of nowhere, and forcing you through High Hold and the like is just as 'boring' as the BG roads.

If you want to keep travel maps, use the SOZ version that isn't as buggy. Otherwise it's just frustration dealing with it.

I think an all-encompassing travel map sans encounters, perhaps along the lines boom had imagined, would still be a great idea to facilitate people meeting up and easing concentration. We can't build immersively realistic sprawling servers like NWN 1 times anymore - neither the game nor our numbers support it - so we should stop trying compensating with well-meant expanding, but ultimately linear, boring and pointless filler areas.

Perhaps we could even dedicate some of our capacity to something we could switch on and off as required - you know, if you want to DM a long hike, just load up a good module on our dedicated ALFA server for that stuff. I heard many great ideas about that, like random area generators and a more hub-like infrastructure, maybe I should go poking what happened to those.

Cheers,

isn't this the 000 server project. just take that technology and implement it on the servers.

I did the see the bug forums. Sorry about that.

The oddity in the image are the following:

-the camera is zoomed out furhter than my ini file allows. Quite far.
-all of the charaacter portraits are halfling sized
-the party leader character was shown walking, the only other character geometry visible was a party members special effects, sword hung on his belt.
-The halfling sized party leader walking was stretched vertically
-There was no user control

Some of this may be normal and expected.
I've never experienced anything quite like it in NWN.
It seemed like a bug to me. Perhaps a video of it would explain more.

The only time that I've seen a travel map, is on Sundren, so I have limited experience with how it should look.

From what you have said, that seems to be working as normal Longrath. only party leader has control and is visible on alfa travel maps vfx do appear however so the party leader often looks they being followed by flying backpacks and axes.

there are however bugs with the alfa travel maps that seem to manifest themselves when you have big parties (6+) which cause you to port randomly between events and places of interest on the way.
