Without changing the entire vision of the project.

Moving from 1 PC total straight to 1 PC per server (which would currently be 4 PCs per player) will take a lot more than a few changes to the Admin.

I wouldn't expect you to realize something like that though.

Edit: Shenanigans aside, multiple PCs has been and remains a divisive issue here. To think that turfing a couple of admin will immediately pave the way for 1 PC per server* is simply naive, as multiple PCs is a fundamental shift in a project that has staunchly stuck to one PC since its inception over a decade ago.

Jumping directly from 1 PC per player to 4 PCs per player is simply not a step I can see happening even if you were to change the entire admin team. It is a fundamental change to the project that will likely anger as many people as it would satisfy.

* Currently 4 PCs, 5 when Amn goes live and then 6 should Raven's Bluff make it to live.

One PC per server may be a bit much, but ALFA could have a lot to gain by allowing 2 PCs per player, so long as the two PCs never are on the same server. Plenty of folk would take advantage of the opportunity, and enjoy it.

I wouldn't expect you to realize something like that though.

You know, I was actually considering explaining my reasoning and position... but that abrasive condescension combined with calling me naive for disagreeing with you reminds me why I don't bother with talking here much anymore. Your version of 'the spirit of ALFA" overriding everything with no room for debate -or improvement- is exactly why civility here is wasted.

Hilarious considering people have called me condescending before just from being precise with language. If they want a lesson in telling the difference, I'll just point at you from now on. I mean, hell, do you even play here anymore?

I'm done with the drift myself. The OPs idea sounds fun, and I hope it works out.

And herein lies the issue. I have talked with gads of ex-players and DM's over the last week. I contacted every person that I felt had been extraordinary in one way or another. All of them came back to the same reason for their departure; the rules, red tape and condescension.

First off, the "Spirit of ALFA" isn't found in a rule or even a whole set of them. That's your first mistake. I should know, I was here when we determined what that spirit was exactly. Rules can never substitute for excellence. Either you have excellence as builders, dm's and players or you don't. And that was the spirit of ALFA; the best players, guilds, DM's and builders that could be found in the NWN community. Somewhere along the way that got substituted with the most bureaucratic system in the history of persistent worlds and that is a shame.

The answer for why there are no players isn't found in charts, diagrams or a new rule just waiting to get implemented. It is because the fun is gone. The same can and should be said for DM's. If it stops being fun and starts being a huge drag due to rules and strange standards, the best will leave.

For instance, why isn't Amn live yet? Is it ready?

My idea is simple here, rethink everything, change or die. Make this place something that attracts great builders, incredible storytellers, motivated players who will start guilds (not DM driven ones mind you) and players who will just come to bring their A game. Pen and Paper D&D has lasted this long because it is simple (ish) and the rules are there to guide, not to become the game in and of themselves.

The old boys club running the show wants everyone to think like them, and sees anyone who thinks we can evolve as 'naive' and 'doom and gloom'. Without a fundamental change in adminship, we won't be seeing anything new besides some tech additions (which, while great... doesn't really address the issue).

Amn isn't live yet because t-ice is taking his time with it last I heard, but he is doing a decent job with it.

Yea, that condescension is a pain in the ass.

As per people that really "matter" i'd talk to the 90+ players that came and went through Alfa over the last four-five years. Do they count?

I've recently stepped back and down from heading up an oas project, due to time limitations as well as my own general lack of willpower to donate yet X more hours to the project that I've donated a serious amount of time to over the last 8 years. I have one more thing to vounteer my time for in Alfa, and I will likely be done period. Ageism indeed. If one of you guys wants to get with Regas and head up the project, I firmly believe that THOSE hours will be the most beneficial to alfa...not making yet one more server with a HUR HUR ima do things my way. More servers obviously has not been the answer in the past. THe best part is, anyone can step up and do this, "old boys club" or no. If you really and truely want to make an impact in ALFA, get up with Regas. Or just continue making your opinions known in the forums, I'm sure that will do a lot to change something. Eventually. Maybe. Well, I am sure someone with freetime will come along and make what you want to happen happen in the next 100 years or so, at least.

Peace,
Daniel
