It also helps that the nwn vault sight has been down for the count for the last two months. Plus if you want a copy of nwn2 now you have to go to freek'n amazon and buy it. No digital download and no steam sales means less people are picking up nwn2 like they would if they could get it on the cheap and accidently decide to try out that 'multi-player' button.

We took a hit from this bit, yeah, and it's terribly unpleasant.

I've been sniffing for a viable client rewrite project (that is, a unique stand alone client that happens to communicate with nwn2server in the exact same ways as NWN2)... though the CE is as close as it gets there. Sadly, owning companies are still in business, so we can't much do the abandonware scheme and just distribute it with the knowledge that there's no one left to sue us (there is, and they will). In the end, I think we need to either own our game client or we need to have a version that can be distributed for free to see things viable. But that's a whole other problem there.

this may be a bizarre question, but could we maybe reach out to whoever owns the license and ask for the right to re-sell the game on line for them through ALFA? If it's just a download, what would they have to loose?

Brilliant idea. There are many retailers of software out there, we could simply open an online retail shop, perhaps on amazon.com so that VAT is taken care of?

If we sell stuff outside the USA we need to collect VAT. We'd also need a bank account and a probably a corporation. But think on it, it means running a business, paying taxes etc. It might not be a bad idea to retail all DnD products generally.

You can theoretically sell as an individual, but the tax complications for said volunteer human, plus likelihood Atari would say no to an actual human as a vendor, are high.

If you want to go there I can get us set up to retail stuff and collect funds via paypal.

I like this idea. We need to be able to provide the means for people to play.

Step 2 is making sure we retain as many as we can, both of the new and existing players.

Topic has been answer. Now individuals are being stupid. Lock this thread.
I had a concern that was addressed. If you're calling that stupid and being dismissive of it, I'm glad you're not the PA.

It sure is expensive on Amazon, 64$ for a game several years old.

I'm not around as much as usual due to Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2, DOTA2 Beta and Hawken Alpha testing. The GW2 shine is beginning to wear off, I only play Borderlands 2 when my mates are on, I've always been hot and cold about DOTA, and Hawken will eventually be released but I have no doubt that ALFA will survive them all.

That said, I did still drop in on the usual slots a few times only to see no activity, so I didn't linger. (I don't try to seed MS anymore.) The MS group was a fragile one at the best of times so I'm not surprised it fell away after the first serious set back (Tormas); a pitty, on both counts.

If/when Tha'is gets back around she can be a healer along with Tam, that'd get me playing regularly again. As it is, I don't really do campaigns without a decent healer.
