Project Eternity. Kickstarter.

Post by Adanu »

Up to you whether you consider this a good or bad thing.

Considering Obsidian won't have publishers screwing with them, I'm a bit more optimistic for this one.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Backed already.

They've already hit the $1.1m mark. Wonder how high they will go.

What do we know about this game other than that it contains drow*?

Backed. This game is guaranteed to be awesome. And only a mere $20.

Backed. We all know this will be awesome. So tempted to do $1000 and get an.npc in there. Struggled with decision. Decided to support a hungry kid through charity instead.

Stupid priorities.

Damn straight. I am sure the kid would smile knowing you had an NPC named after you :P

Backed. While I am sure the pledges will slow down, their 2.2 million stretch goal certainly wouldn't be out of reach. It also goes to show the support people are willing to put behind more old school style RPGs.

And with not having a developer to screw them on every decision and milestone, they might actually have the time to properly finish it instead of rushing it out to satisfy the marketing and boardroom suits.

Based on the past two big games (Wasteland 2 and Double Fine Adventures), at the current rate Project Eternity will probably end up with ~$3m. Both of these two games were at a similar point after two days as where Project Eternity was. It depends how well they can keep the movement going, whether they can top it.

Two weeks to go, currently sitting on $2.21 million. Next stretch goal brings Enchanting and Crafting @ $2.4 million.

1 week to go and it is just about to hit its $2.5 million stretch goal of 2 new classes. As of posting they are 6 backers away from adding another level to The Endless Paths dungeon. Kicktraq.com has it trending toward the $3 million mark.

I hate to say it, but I will probably wait to steam-snipe it for $9.99 at 75% off or something like that.

Because it should be shared. The first environment screenshot: http://media.obsidian.net/eternity/medi ... 0x1080.jpg (link only due to its resolution).
Early on in the Kickstarter campaign, we told you that we wanted to make maps the Infinity Engine way. That is, we wanted to build 3D levels, render them out as 2D images, and then have our artists paint in beautiful details, highlights, and color-tweaks before they went into the game. Looking back at the levels some of us worked on for Icewind Dale, we were still thrilled with the quality that we could achieve with this approach. For Project Eternity, we're using 10 years of improvements in rendering technology and hardware to get the job done, but we still love what we can do the "old-fashioned" way.

24 hours to go and it is close to knocking Double Fine Adventure as the biggest kickstarter for a video game. The final stretch goal is now a possibility.
