Tech Questions

Post by ElCadaver »

Hi All,
making the BIG PUSH to see if I can get my wife to come and play too.. that holy grail of Nerd Love, the sneaky wife scout for my fighter.. Unfortunately she is definitely not a nerd, so wish me luck.

But before I can do that, I need some tech questions answered.

1. Nvidia Quadro NVS210S
that what her PC has. Everything else is ok, and apparently this card has shader model 3, 256MB ram. Should just scrap through on a small monitor. Anyone had any experience. I can't afford to upgrade ATM.

2. Playing NWN2 on two different computers on the same IP address.
I know there are some issues here, just not sure what the fix is.

3. NWN2 platinum is 19.99 AUD on Steam. Anyone know where you can DL it cheaper?

Anyone help a lad?

At least with my ISP it's possible to remove NATting on the box and you get separate IPs to each device.

Technicolor TG587n v3

Telstra doesn't think that this modem has functionality to change NAT settings... they are checking.

Short of getting them to supply me another modem, any other ways?

[EDIT]
Does this work? Same public IP address, but

"Go to your nwnmain then click on the nwnplayer.ini file then go until you see the port/IP # for your game, which will be 5120 etc.. and make sure that each pc/game is set to a different value. 5120, 5121,5123,5124 just like that."

ALFA has imlemented some handling to protect against a lot of the bugs associated with multiple connections from the same IP address (Ravin and Uniskorne went and showed us all of the associated horrors).

The distinct port specifications is what we did before; that should still work, too.

Can't say I have any specific experiences with that graphics card, but a 256 meg is going to need to have all of the features turned off-- and will probably need to be played on the minimum resolution. Even then, I can't promise that it will go well; custom content tends to be pretty hard on the graphics, given that you're generally drawing more stuff than the original game intended-- and drawing stuff from amateur modelers.

And NWN2 is even a bit old to appear in bargain bins; digital distribution is likely going to be the best route, as physical boxes tend to start drifting into "charge way too much and appeal to fanbois; sell one a year" territory this late in a game's life.

Cheers Zelknolf,
I guess $20 isn't much to give it a try

Nvidia Quadro cards are generally weaker at gaming than a true gaming card. Quadro is for CAD and similar work where precision is way more important than speed. So, definitely don't expect too much out of it.
Built: TSM (nwn2) Shining Scroll and Map House (proof anyone can build!)

Many routers work fine for multiple computers/clients behind the same IP address; I suspect it's only certain models that have interference issues. Never had a problem with it in the past via any sevearl comcast cable internet / TrendNet or D-link router setups over the years. Try it first and see if you get a problem; if so, try changing the client port for one of the installs (in nwn2player.ini). That's almost always sufficient, shouldn't need to bother with trying to get static IPs / additional IPs, etc.
