Help your server!

Post by paazin »

BG is looking for people to assist in making new content.

This involves creating interior areas, dialogue and ideas for quests, items, NPCs, or anything else that might bring this little section of Faerun to life and give people something to do.

Please note, we very much appreciate those who offer their time to help our little server and, though there are no promises, it may offer a little more priority in the any requests you may have.

I am willing to do interiors for Shammath when the exterior is ready. Also willing to make other areas, let me know if there are some specifics needed built

I can create items (non-scripted, I haven't learn how to do that yet, but the rest is ok) and come up with a few quests.

Was thinking about a few general quests with a more diplomatic, or charisma based content which I didnt see in my time in BG, other then the usual scout/raid/delivery, like having to go convince someone that X is best then Y or something, or even mix up both types of quests. If there is room for that, I can think of something.

Is there a BG building forum, FTP, etc. where needs or proposals can be discussed without spoiling too many surprises for folks?

I'm thinking I could continue making things like the last erf (though sounded like you wanted a new item category in an upcoming hak)... or maybe grab some other content like we've discussed to duplicate and subtly adjust for use in TBD areas (including NPCs, whether static granting or doing other kinds of stuff).

EDIT: if you've got any "perfect" creatures of any sort and "a bunch of creatures you wish looked that way", I'm taking it there's a need for adjustments and fixes. Two of the recent bugposts are like "deer related" or "incorporeal undead related." Fixing stats and skins and whatnot isn't a tall order if there's either SRD or the right sourcebooks at hand, it's just grunty. Inserting the right scripts though is the part that goes over an outsider's head, unless told to just fill in the blanks with exactly what your "perfect" critter has. Example if you have some animals that you really want running away if shot at, erf up a perfect bunnyrabbit and his scripts to copy onto some other shy critter.

Glad to help as soon as I can get the toolset all working on this new computer.

Experience making items of a wide variety, many seem to have made it into BG already which is awesome.

Also experience with exteriors and to a lesser degree, interiors. I am particularly fond of touching up older areas so that the walkmesh is in better shape, nothing bugs me like areas that are indiscernably unwalkable.

Prefer projects I can work on little at a time like this instead of big projects.

This would be great, though they involve a bit more work in scripting and dialogue. Are you familiar with how NWN2 scripted conversations work?

Unfortunately no, but if you point me to some good guides, I can learn and try :)

I have ideas for quests and would be willing to work on scripted dialogues but I need a refresher. Curm and Wynna taught me oh so long ago....

On that subject, Wynna once told me that the scripted dialogue trees for the TSM basic quests could be adapted easily to any server just by changing the text of the dialogue. For example, a simple temple quest that requires a check of deity and/or bluff check, then a script for the priest offering you the quest could be adapted to any and every temple on all ALFA servers with (theoretically) minimal work. Same for basic fedex and "kill the baddie" type quests.

ogr, Hexigo adding you both to the BG Builders group. I'll have examples there shortly for how some of this stuff works.

If people are skilled at making interiors, stuff which would be awesome:

random generic shops
random generic taverns/inns
barracks/guard posts
little trade halls or merchant/craft guilds too

Nice stuff! I'm pretty oblivious of other servers, though any help would be awesomely appreciated. If you see any areas around the server that could use touch-up or have ideas to add new areas, it would certainly be great.

Stuff that comes to my mind off-hand is the lack of any sort of general store in Beregost if someone would like to create various little shops like those.
