Weird Mirror Image effect?

Weird Mirror Image effect?
My wizard occasionally casts Mirror Image.
When I do it in single player, it looks normal, like several glowing orbs spinning about him that disappear as he gets hit.
On ALFA it looks funny, more like a transparent and wavy square overlaid above my PC.
Is this a confirmed visual effects bug? AFAIK its always done that, 1+ years in ALFA2...

I think we have some systems in place to reduce the "lit up like a Christmas tree"-effect that can plague high-level casters. You could be seeing the result of that.
Re: Weird Mirror Image effect?
IMHO the effect I'm seeing is WAY more disruptive than glowing lights. I'll try and take a screenshot, but is anyone else experiencing this (paazin)?

Re: Weird Mirror Image effect?
it looks like a stupid large box around the wizard, that makes it hard to click on anything near him. I too find it annoying enough that I rarely keep the awesome mirror image prepared. (it also disrupts other players ability to click on enemies near the wizard too)

I'd be in favor of changing it back as well, it is highly annoying, especially because the orbs actually give some indication of how many copies you created.

Cool, so I'm not the only one seeing it.
Technical folks: is this effect intended, or is it a bug?

Re: Weird Mirror Image effect?
It was a "feature" of a spell VFX pack we added to the haks way back around NWN2-Live. Easily removed, it's just dropping one file from the alfa2_fx.hak with next update. Will mean everyone has to re-download the FX hak, but I think there were some skydomes on request that might fo into that hak anyway.
If the players of both ALFA's highish-level arcane casters feel it's a step backwards (and potentially causing problems with clicking on things that should be clickable), sounds like a good enough reason to pull it to me.

I might get burned by a proper-form-tech-inquisition here, but you can actually use your own overrides for these spell effects.
The hackpack is this:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=nw ... tail&id=12
You can DL the "no effects whatsoever" one, and put just the mirror image effect file to your overrides. This removes any gfx from mirror image (on your client only). Or you can put the standard nwn2 mirror image effect file to the overrides, and you should get back the standard one (disclaimer: I haven't tried this).
Separate question is what ALFA uses as standard in it's hak, but you can actually choose which gfx to use for yourself. Also be aware that not everybody necessarily sees gfx exactly the same you do.

Re: Weird Mirror Image effect?
I think I heard last night that ALFA HAKs take precedence over any overrides... dont know if this would work?

Re: Weird Mirror Image effect?
You can use your own effects, it was fairly common practice when NWN2 first came out and some of the effects were causing graphical bugs and chopping on lower end machines.
The effects are ".sef" files, these are visual only cause no syncing problems between client and server.
