Howdy.

Post by CaptainVictory »

Hey there folks. I'll keep it short and sweet: I've been out of the loop of NWN PWs for a long time; lost my discs and forgot my old account name/password. Some years later (like, three days ago): Steam decided to sell NWN2 for $10, I snatched it up, did some searching around for a quality PW, and found this place was highly regarded as classy, so I applied and am happy to say I've been accepted into the community.

You'll likely find me running around the Silver Marches like a chicken with my head cut off, getting into all sorts of trouble.

My second character? Comforting.

So, when it comes to characters, do we simply log in and roll with it, or is it considered in good taste to spend seventy-trillion hours painstakingly posting that character's every single hope/dream/aspiration/desire/fear of squirrels in a thread that we forgot to copy and paste and then find ourselves accidentally hitting the "back" button on our browser subsequently causing the loss of a near-perfect posting?

Either way is cool, I'd just like to know before I start working on my second character.

We're so classy that we all wear monocles, and harumph approvingly whenever something improves in game.

:3

Generally best to just get in and play with your first character. Remember that everything you do is treated as in character and try to keep track of the things you say for consistency's sake, but most people don't detail characters until they're sure that the character is going to survive for long enough to make it worth the investment.

That's level 3 - 4 for a lot of people.

The relatively steep learning curve nad somewhat high low-level mortality rate means that many people wont fully flesh out a PC until they have time under their belt.

Jump in game and start playing!

We have lots of advice columns for new players I think reading every one you can is best.

1. Don't get too attached.

2. You may get really excited and that is great. If you are suddenly flooded with ideas, make sure to check the forums as these things probably are discussed a plenty and entirely.

3.Find a server with players in your time zone. MS has a Euro core and a USA core. TSM has an Aussie DM right now and a Euro-late night once-a-week Dwarf campaign. BG has EST coverage and PST evenings coverage.

4. USE our MIRC/Mibbit chat as much as you cant. Its the best way to connect with players during off times. It always has someone on too.

5. Expect to spend some time learning and/or proving yourself.

6. IF you come from other servers, Alfa is a ROLEPLAYING server. It does not focus on ONE aspect of life in Faerun like on a social server or an arena server; it expects you to cover them all while playing your character. Party chat is used for IC communications here. As well we don't normally send OC tells to players to attempt to get them to do things for us and with us in character.

***Note: A proviso to that is that our servers are HUGE tracts of land. It is easy to get lost w/o a Dm. Asking for directions is not a bad thing and subs for what an NPC would do. As well if you want to meet other players, a simple tell to your location is good. It's simple politeness. If you don't show up or attempt to play with others, it will be assumed you WANT to be alone and Rp alone.

7. Please keep your language in character. As any person in reality might assume, that person across the way might be a priest or a teacher or a very pious clean living person. If you swear or attempt to grope them IC or not, they might just have a sword behind their back and within their right to hurt you or worse shun your character. Try to be authentic but also think about what your goals are in social interations and use a NAUTRAL progression that your character would know and use.
