What music do you listen to?

Post by Ksiel »

I posted this months back asking the community what different types of music we all listen to while playing in ALFA? From that post, I ended up buying 2 cd's that I have enjoyed. I am looking to re-visit this topic and find some more.

Most of the time I like listening to sound tracks from movies in the background while I play such as:

KA - Cirque Du Soleil
Legend
Last of the Mohicans
Conan the Barbarian
Legend of the Fall
The Rock
Lord of the Rings Trilogy

So what gets you in the mood?

I don't play any particular music when I'm playing. It's hard to think of new songs while listening to someone else's lyrics. But in case anyone was curious as to what I do listen to. The first few songs on my top rated are.. in no particular order (randomized).

Hell - Squirrel Nut Zippers
Geek in the Pink- Jason Mraz
Cold Hard Bitch- Jet
I Won't Back Down- Tom Petty
Hook- Blues Traveler
Down in a Hole- Alice in Chains
Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows
Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin Doctors
Steal My Sunshine- Len
Istanbul was Constantinople- They Might Be Giants

I listen to movie soundtracks while I'm in the toolset. Current list is:

Gladiator
Rob Roy
The 13th Warrior
Gettysburg
Jurassic Park
Rob Roy
LotR

In my car, I'm an old timer metal head. Black Sabbath. Dio, not Ozzie.

Right now I'm mostly listening to Apoptygma Berzerk, Loreena McKennitt, Rammstein and Tori Amos... also a wide selection of classical, baroque and renaissance pieces as well as... just mixed stuff, really.

I very rarely have audio on at all.

I only really "strap in" when DM events bring up the intensity level. Otherwise during "routine" play, I'm also making lunches, feeding dogs, preparing coffeee, washing dishes, doing laundry, answering emails, watching The Colbert Report, responding to pages, interpreting MRIs or other stuff....

to answer the original question - just put on the razor's edge by ac/dc, which on the list is followed by balls to the wall by accept, and then i believe do or die by dropkick murphys.

I have music on any time I'm playing, it's basically a necessity for me. I listen to a pretty broad variety of stuff though, depending on the mood/situation.

Daft Punk - Around the World/Harder Better Faster Stronger Remix from Alive 2007

Deadmau5 feat. Rob Wire - Ghosts N Stuff

The Dies Irae from Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi. This song instantly makes any form of conflict better and more awesome. Unfortunately I couldn't find the particularly excellent recording from Robert Shaw with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on YouTube, but you get the idea.

Uranus, The Magician from The Planets, by Gustav Holst. As a French horn player, this has always been one of my favorites.

The Scythian Suite by Sergei Prokofiev

Kaizers Orchestra - Ompa Til Du Dør

The Mighty Stef - Death Threats

Beyond previously listed...

Ghost in a Shell soundtrack is good....

and I'd check out the new Tron soundtrack as well.... (Daft Punk)

In the car, if I'm not listening to the news it's either Grateful Dead with a smattering of other 70's faves (Doors, Hendrix, Airplane) plus the Flaming Lips, or the audiobook versions of Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.
