OMFG! I did not see that coming at all. I had picked Brazil to win the cup, playing Argentina in the final... Now maybe it'll be Deutschland v the Dutch.

Germany vs. Seagermany is -always- my wished-for finale. To be honest, I didn't even think we'd beat England... then I didn't think we'd beat Argentine (well, at least that should console the brits a li'l)... and now I kinda think Spain's the favourite.

Still, NL:GER would be an awesome finale!

Spain was the favourite going into the World Cup, but their results haven't really been speaking for themselves. Luck or not, Germany has had the strongest results of the remaining teams.

Can I remind you of Gary Lineker's aphorism:
"Football is a game played by 22 men for 90 minutes and then the Germans win".

I think Germany's coaching staff are just plain smarter than everyone else...

Football just isn't predictable, is what. Earnest scientific analysis has shown the results to be based approximately 40% on chance. This, of course, explains footballs appeal: The "underdog" can beat the favourite relatively often, and we all love upsets. Having the better team or better results in the last game doesn't count for all that much, so predictions based on as small a sample as the couple world cup games don't mean squat.

The ball is round ;). More than that we'll know when the results are in.

While NZers were always hoping for a massive underdog 'lucky' upset that saw us taking home the Cup, the prevalence of certain teams appearing the in finals of the World Cup shows that skill has a larger than 60% effect on the outcome of a game.

However, it seems that Spain will defeat Germany.
