I got up to watch the game, but ended up missing it because my gall bladder decided to crap out at just that moment. The nurse came and told me we drew the game while I was on the trolley bed, but I was too pumped full of morphine to really care...

Real pity AUS didn't win higher (or lost that badly to GER), but nice exit anyway.

Yep, that one is entirely on the shoulders of the coach for changing everything for the game against Germany instead of sticking with his tried and true setup.

Bugger. A third draw. An brilliant result for NZ (currently ranked down near 80th in the world), but not enough to get us to top 16... With the Slovaks beating Italy, if we had managed to get a lucky goal against Paraguay we would have ended up at the top of our group! That would have been most excellent.

A bit has been made out of the Slovak's off-side goal and Italy's faking it to get a penalty against us and how we might have won both games otherwise, but the fact of the matter is that even though we got a lot of ball, we never really did that much with it.

Ah well, we'll just have to console ourselves with the fact that we finished higher in our group than Italy, the current world champions...

Console ourselves? No one a month ago would ever have believed we could go to the world cup without loosing a single match! No consoling is needed. New Zealand was fucking amazing. Just got to hope that our effort will lead to greater popularity in football (other than wellintgon, no one really watches it).

Next time, though, we'll make it through!
