Desecrating the Dead: Is it REALLY worth a trip to jail?

Post by CloudDancing »

So you the intrepid player, whether Rogue, Pailidan, Bard, or Ranger, walks into a temple, a holy place, guarded by the elite clerics and knights of the priesthood.

There on the floor is a corpse, laid to rest by a dutiful soul who saw fit to properly inter them in a sacred place.

So in front of the priest, literally UNDER HIS EYES, you decided to not only reach into the dead's pockets and steal their worldly wealth BUT you also remove their clothes and underclothes as well. ALL UNDER THE EYES OF THE PRIEST. Eyeing their attractive backpack you load up all their goods when suddenly a armored hand darts out and grabs yours, and you are face with the glittering stare of a level 15 Battlepriest.

"Going Somewhere, FRIEND?"

First:
1. Looting PCs is fine IN THE RIGHT SITUATION.
Ask yourself:
a) What is in-character/ IC?
b) How would MY deity feel if they saw me rifiling a corpse for the meager 2 gold I can make selling their beef jerky and leopard skin bikini?
c) If the priest/cleric is watching, will I be able to to Bluff/Slieight of Hand/Intimidate my way out of this? Do I have an invisibily spell on? Am I ready to be flogged for insubordination?

2.Doing it like the above merely shows that you have no respect for the RP enviroment.
3.It also tells me that you seem to think there is no consequences of these actions and in the past people have'nt pressed the issue. Sadly priests and clerics live dull lives and they rather HATE It when they see you have been fondling rotting corpses on their altars. And some Deities as well hate it when their precious happy followers suddenly flip flop into greedy little grave robbers.

4. Get them BEFORE they get in the temple. Though you can't be THAT sad your friend is dead if you are stuffing you hands into their pockets and stripping off their armor after their death. Really. Of course if as they died they said, "you can have all my things random person I just met!" Go for it. If you are family! Go for it. If you can pretend feasibly you ARE famlily! Do it.

+1, and fair warning...consequences will be IC appropriate to the temple (jail is the best outcome you can hope for  ).
I seek plunder....and succulent greens

Are dead bodies lying around the floor of a temple even IC? A crypt maybe, but a temple? I would imagine they would be prepared for burial/stripped of belongings etc by the temple priests, lying "in state" maybe, but not just left to rot on the floor. AFAIK, the only reason we leave them on temple floors IC is because there is no mechanism to get them buried from a technological standpoint.

If they are there i'd would consider them OCC after a while since they keep coming back for some odd reason during server resets due to their exsistence as persistant storage containers. And what happens OUTSIDE the temple is fine with me as well.

But looting them really isnt helping. Treating them as some sort OCC environmental loot basket is sort of against what we are trying to do as well. Sort of like pchest exploits, people in the past have claimed "they thought it was magic and a happy anomlay" and that selling it back to a vendor was helping the DMs out (and keeping) the gold.)

But I will do my best to destroy them. So far the only way I have found to remove them by putting them on my avatar and logging out. Poof! No more corpse.

To destroy a corpse once and for all!

You open the Corpse's Inventory where the 1 gp underwear and the actual item labeled Joe Fighter's Corpse or Rotten Corpse is.

You loot the actual Inventory corpse item just like you wanted to carry the body from the wilds to a temple.

You create a camp fire with the PC Tools.

You open the Camp Fire's Inventory by clicking on it.

You now transfer the corpse from your inventory into the Camp Fire's Inventory.

You now Use PC Tool to Remove the Campfire.

Once the fire is put out using PC Tools the corpse and anything else in the Camp Fire's inventory will be destroyed.

This trick is ideal for getting rid of trash when no trash cans are easily accessible, and it also serves as an in game means in which Players can simulate either funeral pyres or burying the dead.

NOTE: If you instead bash a corpse repeatedly until it vanishes know that you have failed. The Corpse will reappear next server Reset and that it will no longer have the inventory it had before you beat on said dead corpse. This new click able Corpse without a Corpse Item in the inventory can not be removed by a player because there is no corpse item to loot and dump in a trash can or campfire. Now you need to call in the DM Team to remove the unmovable corpse clickable.

So I am going to bump this up again.

Reminder: NPCs DO NOT become blind, deaf and dumb the moment a DM stops using them. They have eyes. Looting a body that has been left right infront of an NPC IS NOT COOL and the NPC would immediately stop you. This being a PW, DMs cant be everywhere all the time, but you must use your heads. If the body is in a temple, generally it will be OOC, as the priests would move the body out of public areas almost immediately.

Don't just laugh it off. Im serious.

Not arguing the point, but I recently discovered on my first visit with Del to the RM crypt that there are bodies all over the place, most without corpse objects. I checked, just to be sure, and meant to post a request for someone to find a way to get rid of the bodies, as I'm sure they add to server lag in some way. I know for a fact that one body i found and carried from a cave is now in HH's Red Knight temple, sans corpse item, so I know of no way to get rid of the stinking carcass through any IG means.
<paazin> Elves I bet are kinda fun to play.
<BH|werksux> I prefer the trumpet or clarinet

Please report any and all unduly persistent corpses to Curm, who keeps a list and purges the server when the risks of spontaneous reanimation becomes too great.
