Locks...Locks! Shops!
I need to sell locks...
Ok.. seriously, it might be me but i have searched everywhere and have consulted other PCs, and no one seems to have found a store that takes locks. We all know loot is not easy to come by and to find around 10 locks in my inventory worth a good sum of gold and have no place to sell them is driving me crazyyyy.
Could we have a look at this?

Re: Locks...Locks! Shops!
That is an ongoing issue with a lot of adventuring equipment that has a buyback of 1 GP or more..I won't say that No One buys them..but IMHO..anyplace that sells it or crafts it..should buy it.
I don't complain too much as I've never paid a builders salary..and they have many requests and jobs on their plates..My PC may be greedy..but fortunately..I am patient.

Re: Locks...Locks! Shops!
I would just burn them if they worth worth 1GP *nods* problem is that locks are worth much more then that, around 15 gp up to 30's for good quality locks. And that my dear friend Lucifer is quite alot in our ALFAn world
Now I notice you said 1gp -or more- So *nods* Maybe it requires just patience, just wanted to make sure the issue is noted though

What use is a lock without a key? I think most kobolds and goblins toss the keys away and tie the locks to a piece of rawhide for use as a crude morningstar, personally

Yes, but the adventurer merchant then sells these locks to a community of halflings so that their young may train in the art of stealing every lil thing they can get their tiny mits on.johnlewismcleod wrote:What use is a lock without a key? The general supplies "Adventurer" salesperson in the SM Marketplace is the person who buys all the general crap that no-one else buys. If you've got something that's got value that you can't sell anywhere else, you go to the Adventurer shop, for all your shopping needsErevain wrote:adventurer salesman in SM buys locks....

If you have a lock
and no-one else can help you
and if you can find them,
maybe you can hire... The A(dventurer shop) Team!

Still, if you want to befuddle adventurers, start dropping KEYS as treasure. They will hold onto them forever you know, even if they aren't tagged to fit anything in any server, ever.
A lock though is valuable, as a locksmith could make a key for it. Which is different than a locksmith making a lock that will work with a key you happen to find, lot different level of effort, and completely silly.

Some of the best loot Malcer Angalstrand (NWN1) ever received was the collection of keys taken from the corpse of a dead high level PC. there must have been a pouch of 30 of them.Brokenbone wrote:

I spent the next 6 months RL trying to open every locked door in every back alley on every server to which I travelled just hoping something would open. *sighs contentedly* Good times.

What were some of the neater discoveries made with said treasure trove, dergon?
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

Re: Locks...Locks! Shops!
Well....although I never found it, there were allegations that my PC might eventually stumble across the famed "Mashan Horde"
The best thing of all of it, was that one of the keys provided access to the underground entrance to one of the PC thieves guild in Waterdeep that had for all intents and purposes destroyed the Shar faction in ALFA. I knew the entrance was down there, b/c another of the Sharran faction PCs had showed me ages back when he had tracked Stan there.
So I snuck in, killed every NPC in the place for the fun of it, rifled their notice board (most of which was at least an RL year out of date....but still cool to read) and snuck out again like the shadowdancer I was.
There was nothing of great value in there, but it was still *very* rewarding.
None of the other keys ever opened anything significant ........it was 2006 when I got them and half the servers were probably already shut down
