The personal Correspondence of Rathalan Whitsword

Post by dergon darkhelm »

((The following are copies of letters sent IC over the course of the time I've played Rath. The first was sent in April, 2008 and progress from there))

Scribed this Eighteenth day of Marpenoth, Year 1373 in the Dale Reckoning

Adept Rathalan Whitsword takes pen to parchment to bring word and seek counsel of the most dutiful Reverend Watcher of the Great Guardian Helm, Dogdran Kullthort IV, House Invincible, Silverymoon.

Reverend Watcher,

I thank you most dearly for the opportunity given me to serve in the village of Rivermoot. I can confirm for you that the threats to the hamlet which you had suspected are indeed confirmed. Each day villagers die from attacks by all the lesser goblinkin and orcs. The walking dead also, for reasons unknown to me, defile all the crypts of repose about the town. The village is sorely pressed. I wish that I could report these threats repelled but alas, I cannot. I do, of course, remain diligent in my efforts to see such external hazards eliminated.

Goblinkin and the walking dead however, Reverend Reverend Watcher, are not the primary purpose of this communiqué. An even greater evil threatens this village. An evil that seeks a beachhead of profanity in Rivermoot from which it can spread throughout the Silver Marches has risen up in this place. I speak of the Black Hand of Bane. Woeful it is but true.

A preist of the Tyrant, along with a sizable phalanx of followers has placed itself strongly within the village, seeking to make itself the authority here. Already a dark pall of fear has been cast over the populace.

In my efforts to stand at the vanguard against the threat I have but a few allies. A Lady of the Red Knight and her War Priest stand out as the staunchest. I fear, however, that our numbers are, despite our greatest vigilance, insufficient to break hold of the destructive grip that now constricts Rivermoot. A holy warrior of Torm was cut down within the city walls, and I myself am marked for death.

The Lady Knight has sent word to her comrades to seek relief in troops. With this letter I hope to also beseech the Holy House for both aid and counsel. Here in this small village I stand watching a gathering storm of evil that if not dutiful prepared for will sweep over these lands with a tempest of tyranny. Reverend Watcher, aid me with your wisdom in this regard, for I sorely need it to fulfill the duty that calls me.

I await your reply with diligent prayer.

Yours in Duty and Vigilance,

Scribed this Fifth day of Hammer, Year 1374 in the Dale Reckoning

Adept Rathalan Whitsword takes pen to parchment to bring word and seek counsel of the most dutiful Vigilant Master Baerim Coraddor, House Invincible, Silverymoon.

Vigilant Master,

I have need to inform you of the progression of events at the western edge of the realm downriver in the village of Rivermmoot. I have yet received neither word nor orders from The House Invincible despite my earlier letters. I pray in earnest that this writing reaches you.

The threats to this hamlet and indeed to the Marches themselves from both within and without have only grown more dire since my last writing.

The attacks of orcs from the hills worsen. I have little doubt that the small raids will give way to full scale assault in coming days. The profanity of the restless dead is worse than I had earlier suspected. Some great evil power propels them from deep within the ground.

Again, Vigilant Master, even greater evil threatens this village from within its own walls. The Black Hand of Bane grows ever stronger. The preist of the Tyrant has placed himself in a position of authority within the village. His followers are drawn here in ever greater numbers. They flaunt their dark worship openly and even speak of the construction of a shrine.

I restate to you, in my efforts to stand at the vanguard against the threat I have but a few allies. The Lady of the Red Knight and her War Priest remain firm. The holy warrior of Torm who was cut down within the city walls by the cult of Bane has not yet been avenged. No adjudication on his murder comes from the town elders.

The Lady Knight was able to secure a small contingent of the Argent Legion who is currently posted to Rivermoot. However, they, along with the town Marshall and even the Tyrran priest here refuse to act against the Black Hand. I can only assume that they are either cowed in fear or corrupted in their souls.

I have stayed my hand against these Banites for reason that they would use such an event to label us, the dutiful folk of the realms, as the outlaws. The leader of the Cult of the Black Hand would be happy to sacrifice some of his own to have that end come to pass. I am marked for death yet I am unwavering in my pledge to fulfill my duty here in this posting so long as it remains the will of the Great Guardian for me to do so.

The common folk of this village of Rivermoot need to learn that they are a protectorate of the Lady of the Marches, and need to be shown in no uncertain terms that just as in Silverymoon, open worship of the dark gods will not be tolerated.

I beseech you to seek on my behalf the writ of the Lady of Silverymoon the right to form a militia of just men and to execute the necessary duty to remove the Black Hand of the Tyrant Bane from Rivermoot by whatever means necessary.

Times grow dire yet I am ever vigilant in prayer and await your reply.

Yours in Duty,

Adept Rathalan Whitsword
