Please don't emote...

Post by Veilan »

...what your characters are thinking or feeling.

(Unless of course you know for a fact the characters you are playing with are psychics, that is. 8))

+1000. if you are going to describe how your character appears that's fine e.g. *has perplexed look on his face* NOT *is perplexed about something* *is pissed that he is not the center of attention* etc...

Actually...

There's really not much of a difference between *is flabbergasted* and *looks flabbergasted*. I'd say that in some situations, emoting the emotion can be a convenient and therefore justifiable shorthand for a whole range of facial and body reactions. Especially for those of us with a low typing speed and limited vocabulary.

Like me.

How about *jaw drops* instead for this? I'd rather use a description of facial expression, posture, gesture, or such, and let the audience read into it what they will.

With all due respect, Hollyfant...then why not simply type *looks flabbergasted* ?

By typing *looks flabergasted*, given the appropriate situation, another PC might use sense motive to determine if it's an act or not.

If it is an act and the PC emotes *is flabbergasted*, then it's basically cheating IMO.

Really, however, I think the genisis of this post is more related to the thankfully few players who emote things like *thinks that sounds ridiculous* or *thinks PC X is missing the point*, etc...I've seen this myself IG and searched the DM client for a subtract XP widget
