Holy Water
Looked through a few sourcebooks, and haven't found any rules on how a cleric/priest can produce holy water. Anyone know?
And can a priest of evil deities make holy water?

Re: Holy Water
How about posting in realmslore instead of the library...that might get a quicker response.....

Re: Holy Water
and what your looking for is the spell Bless Water, page 205 phb. As for weather someone evil could do it, it is listed as transmutation, good, so I doubt it.
For an evil cleric, what you would be looking for is Curse Water, page 216 of the phb.

Bah. Fail in my part. Moderator move this please.
But in response, would a good spell be completley unavailable to an evil cleric? I'm fairly certain good clerics can still cast spells with the evil descriptor.

Re: Holy Water
Nevermind, found it out. It isn't based on a cleric's alignment but the god's alignment. A LE priest of Helm could bless water, but a LE priest of Bane cannot. Discrimination I say.

Re: Holy Water
The "descriptor" stuff got figured out and implemented near the end of ALFA's NWN1, courtesy of Zelknolf.
One of the biggest changes this represented, though, was clerics of evil deities being unable to cast "Protection from Evil." That spell has the good descriptor. Just as Protection from Law would have the chaos descriptor, etc.
This has obvious drawbacks in terms of a cleric of an evil deity fighting say, a cleric of ANOTHER evil deity, or having decent defenses against outsiders from an evil plane. This is where you'd have to get real subtle about law and chaos protections, so if you had a Cleric of Bane preparing for a battle vs. a Cleric of Cyric, neither has Protection from Evil available to him, but the Banite would be well served to grab a Protection from Chaos to defend against the Cyricist's potential mind affecting spells. However, you could also be shafted if you had your Banite up against some Baatezu of LE alignment... as both Protection from Law, and Protection from Evil, are plain unavailable.

Uhmmm...this must have changed. I have seen clerics of evil gods use protection from evil IG many times.

Re: Holy Water
It was changed for nwn1, never nwn2, so evil clerics unfortuneatly will still be able to cast whatever the hell they want to regaurdless of wether they should be able to, and vice versa. Of coarse, clerics are als supposed to have at least 1 spell slot per spell level solely dedicated to those spells they picked up through thier cleric domains as well, but I doubt many people pay any attention to that either. Sometimes I feel cheated dedicating a slot to identify because of this, because I know few if any clerics out there are doing the same, but ah well. Clerics should demand a higher quality of research and knowhow in light of these things, as well as the mass of additional rp wealth that comes along with them...

Re: Holy Water
Unfortunately, neither does NWN2 grant traditional "domain" spells as per D&D. YOu might have a spell at lvl2 and another at lvl5, but it is hit or miss.
It is the rules, I just never liked it.....but I don't have to worry now b/c my PC is 51% good
Yup. Personally, I never agreed with disallowing evil PCs the ability to cast Prot. Evil. It makes, imho, the false assumption that all evil works together.Uhmmm...this must have changed. I have seen clerics of evil gods use protection from evil IG many times.

Re: Holy Water
Agreed. However, there's no rule in PnP that disallows evil/good/chaotic/lawful PCs casting Protection From Evil/Good/Chaos/Law. There is a rule that Gods with an alignment domain will not grant spells of an opposite alignment. And that makes perfect sense. Protection From Evil shields one's body and mind from all evil - which would include an evil Patron Deity.dergon darkhelm wrote:Personally, I never agreed with disallowing evil PCs the ability to cast Prot. I've played evil and neutral divine casters of evil Gods who got (violently) angry when some moronic do-gooder casts Protection From Evil, as it interfered with my toons' connection with their overlords and -ladies. That was my own interpretation though, afaik the rules don have any problem with casting or being subjected to an oppositely-aligned spell. But Lawful Gods do not grant Protection Form Law to their priests. Get a scroll if you want protection. Or Wizard levels.

Re: Holy Water
Well as far as I know NWN2 doesn't allow you to do protection from law/chaos
