Damn Deer

Post by Vendrin »

OOC This is what happened to a character of mine on BG

Laxtor looked about the green forest as he walked towards the Friendly Arm Inn. He avoided the main road... He was a man of the forest and enjoyed it's sights. Enjoyed the slight risk of danger of not knowing exactly what was ahead.
He stopped as he saw his quarry. He was low on coin and needed some badly. So, he decided he would hunt, and sell the hides and meat. Not his most prefered choice but it was what he could do. He carefully crept around it, onto a ledge to gain the height advantage. He drew his Yew Longbow and fired an arrow...
The first missed, but startled the boar. It charged him as he fired another arrow that glanced off its hide. He ran back to get room for another shot. He hit, but it did not stop. So he dropped his bow with a curse and drew his axe from the notch in his belt and swung as soon as the boar came in range.
He swung luckily for his axe drove down right into the brain of the boar, killing it instantly. He grinned in satisfaction and set about to take the hide. After an hour, he had it wrapped in his pack, and so he picked up his bow and continued northward.
He encountered another boar and dispatched it easily from a distance with his bow, for once each arrow going true and hitting the target. He set about to carve the hide off, but as he did he heard a growl and turned around and saw a large black bear charging toward him.
He dropped his knife and reached for his bow, his hand almost missing it as he kept his eyes on the bear. He reached for an arrow, and shot. He missed. The bear kept charging, and Laxtor ran as fast as he could. He somehow was able to get a small lead on the bear, and so turned around and shot again.
He hit squarely into the bear, and it roared in pain but didn't stop. But the shot allowed the bear to get close enough to swing it's massive paws. He luckily jumped out of its way and dropped the bow, pulling out his axe once again. The bear swung a massive paw at him, and as he saw the opening he took it, his axe cleaved into the bears ribs, but as it did, the bears paw slammed against him throwing Laxtor to the ground. But as he fell he kept a tight grip on his axe so that it ripped out of the chest of the bear, with it a few broken ribs.
The bear kealed over and died, and Laxtor after wrapping his wounds carved the hide from his prize.
He felt like returning to Beregost to get his gold, but he saw some deer in the distant. He shrugged and thought a hide is a hide, even if they are just deer. So he shot an arrow at the first he saw.
It glance against it's side and ran away. Hurriedly Laxtor pursued it, his breath labored from his injury, but that hide was gold, and he needed gold. He took another shot at the deer, and hit its rear. That is when the deer did something unexpected. It turned around and charged Laxtor. Along with 4 other deer. There hooves and horns rained down upon him as he feel to the ground struggling for his axe. His last thought was...
Damn Deer.....

Zothar knew the true evil that is Deer. He was doing us all a favour by slaughtering them in their thousands... how I miss that yellow bellied wizard.
