The diary is written in a small delicate script, the words are Elven
Sunday 22 1398.
after a fruitless day of searching for work in Baldur's Gate proper I decided it would be best to travel further south in the hopes of maybe some hunting, my travels again prooved fruitless, no wildlife at all, it was most odd, however the calmness of the wild was indeed preferable to the noise and bustle of the bigger Cities.
I must also find time to continue my studies, I feel the potential for magic that is my birthright but am still unable to tap into it. For now I shall set up a small camp just north of Beregost and see who comes by.
Later that day I met Laniara who explained something of her quest for a greater understanding of the arcane arts, how I envy her and her ability to tap into that most wondorous of energies... We talked for a time and I also found out the docks are not safe, something about thugs in the area and some people going missing, I'll have to keep my ears open I suppose. A human knight with a suprising ability to pronounce some elven words and even to say some of our greetings introduced himself as a commander in the watch. His name was Lemuel Ogdenstorm. For a human I was impressed with him though he did seem rather preocupied. I've asked Laniara to leave a message with the barkeep if she ever needs my help with anything, and maybe.. just maybe I can with her help learn to use my own untapped potential.
September 23 1398.
with no sign of Laniara I think today I will enquire about some fishing tools and try my hand at it. From what I hear it can be an interesting passtime though it like so many other things can prove dangerous. We shall see how it goes later today.
I found Arsa Von Tharin the Herbalist is willing to purchase any herbs and other similar reagents that I might find when Im out in the wilderness.
Well... I made an attempt at fishing, a dungeon crab caught me by suprise, I was victorious but between the pincers and the cold of the water I must admit to not being certain its a great idea to do it often..
There appears to be a corpse in the depths of the cloakwood... I dont know what possessed me to travel into the forst itself, but i did, there is a corpse near a Gnoll warrior, but I cannot get close to it without alerting the beast. However I feel that its only right that I try and find out WHO the body is, at least so I can alert their friends and family.
Trapped... It appears while wandering these dark woods I've managed to get myself trapped somewhere between a group of spiders which have moved into the area I had travelled through and then south of me is the same Gnoll warrior I mentioned previously. I'm not so sure that I'll get out of this alive.
Safety! I made it back to the entrance to Baldur's Gate proper but have decided now is as good a time as any to set up camp, I'll wait here and see if anyone else arrives. Either way I must tell someone about the body in the depths of the cloakwood, maybe we can arrange to travel there and recover the body...
I've left a note at the helm and cloak about the body I found, hopefully someone will be able to recover the poor soul and give them a proper buriel. For myself I've decided to travel back into the woods, my plan is to collect some of those herbs I saw earlier and then see if I can get a fair price for both those and the the crab meat I managed to recover earlier today.
the book is heavily stained with blood and caked in dried mud
