Buyback rates
Can we please, please get these looked at? I know they are supposedly working as intended, but it just isn't fair right now. My level 6 character can barely afford 2 CLWs potions, and that goes down the drain quick if I have to spend a few nights in the inn.
I've even considered selling some minor magical items I've picked up, but selling a +2 skill item for 32 gold is such a farce I'd rather not.
I seriously can't be the only PC having problems with this.

Re: Buyback rates
I thought this way previously, but no longer. There is plenty of very good loot to be found on the server.
It was designed for you to need a spread of classes and abilities to get into all the servers dungeons and a skilled team to pull out with the goods.
I had this same problem for my first few weeks, and was sure the server was in error by being to stingy. With a little bit of legwork and a whole lot of teamwork we have been making decent money however. Its not the easy paycheck you get from carrying boxes on TSM, but the wealth is there to be had

+1 Mr.D
High risk, high reward I think sums up BG. If you have an organized crew with a variety of strengths the returns are good. No ranger? No herbs for team loot or scout. No wizard? No spell components. No rogue? No chests/traps popped, no scout. No cleric/druid? No free healing. And no tank? No one gets out alive. If you lack variety in your party you will have to struggle for your money here. Hells even with a crew you risk your lives every time you step foot in a dungeon.
I think the buyback rate on BG is fine as is. Easy money is not one of things that come to mind when one thinks of a place that’s referred to as a frontier. TSM being a more lawful and civil land should/does have more opportunities for someone to make a steady paycheck.

Re: Buyback rates
Is this the same TSM that's located in the Savage Frontier? The Savage North? The same Silver Marches federation that was formed as the only hope of holding back the orc hordes from the mountains? The Silver Marches that is on the very boarder of civilization - with the Spine on one side and Anauroch on the other? The very same Silver Marches where it is said that law and order only stretch as far as the sword blade?kiyoti wrote:I think the buyback rate on BG is fine as is. I fear we must be speaking of different places here

Re: Buyback rates
That free healing you're talking about, Kiyoti...comes at 98 gp a pop for potions of CLW when the spells run out

Re: Buyback rates
rotku, my bad. i didn't do my homework!!! you are correct according to source material. the TSM server just had a more lawful civilized feel than BG, IMO when i played there more frequently.
and
JLM, one bit of advise that our crew uses a lot to save on money; when the healer is tapped out then its time to pack it up and move out. having to use to many potions cuts into profits as you have pointed out by reminding us of how much they cost. i can’t count how many times we’ve left in mid-crawl because of this!

Re: Buyback rates
I'm sure there is, but some of us don't have the time or inclination to always roam the wayside with a group for monsters and dungeons to kill. I'm not asking for easy statics to pay me, or phat loot to drop in my lap. I'm asking for what meager things I have managed to gather, to sell at a fair price. I don't think that's unfair.mr duncan wrote:I thought this way previously, but no longer. There is plenty of very good loot to be found on the server.

Re: Buyback rates
I'm not asking for top dollar, I'm asking for more then three gold for a damn greatsword. Or 2 gold for a morningstar made of alchemical silver. I'm asking for a fair price, i.e. the buyback rates TSM had, which I thought were ALFA standard.
And I too pay 50 gold a pop for CLW, and the statement I made in my first post still stands.

Re: Buyback rates
It does sound like it would be nice if it was easier to make coin in BG by selling off used goods for decent coin.....I personally prefer the way it is now with teams of various classes and skill sets being required to adventure for treasures hidden away in dangerous trap filled monster lairs with character death being a very real possibility, as large a possibility as BIG MONEY ! BIG PRIZES !.....sorry for the Smash T.V. reference, it felt right.

Re: Buyback rates
I know I’m taking this more off topic than the attack/comment I’m about to reply to did, (sorry) but I felt a need to defend my crew.
Please do not assume to know about what our group does with our time IC. All because we don’t spend it in your PC’s noble presence does not mean we do not RP. Yes we do a crawl from time to time, last time i checked we played Dungeons and Dragons. But to say we "always" do this is just plain funny. And really let’s be frank sir, I’m sure your toon didn’t get to 6th level by sitting in a bar all game session long chatting it up so let’s not point fingers eh.
End off topic defense.

Re: Buyback rates
After rereading my original post I was not sure if I was clear enough on my opinion on this issue. The way the server is now as far as merchants and buy backs and treasure and gems and what not is top notch IMO. I really enjoy that characters who want wealth need to band together with other adventurers and actively go seeking it out and face all sorts of dangers doing so. Gems and gold are very valuable and can be found and then used to purchase all sorts of items and what not, but second hand weapons and looted gear is worth near to nothing when offered to merchants who are in the business of selling quality unused goods to their customers. I think the current design really promotes adventurering parties and team work and I fear that if second hand goods suddenly got a buy back increase it would be at the expense of what is great about the server being nerfed somehow.
