New player joing soon...advice needed!
New player joing soon...advice needed!
Hey.
I hope to join ALFA soon. I've ordered the game and waiting for the package to arrive(might take a week).
Meanwhile i would like to hear ideas and suggestions where a new player should start? in general, i would
like to play half orc barbarian character, i prefer in the moonsea islands.
I really hope that ALFA is RP based as people around say.
Thanks!

Glad to see you've made it - welcome
I don't think ALFA will let you down, role play wise.

Hello, hello.
We have a NWN1 Moonshae Isles server, the folk who play there could probably give you more useful info about it than I could. I don't recall Orcs being native, so a halforc guy/gall would probably be a sailor or castaway. On the NWN2 front, Baldur's Gate is a more likely place for someone from the Moonshaes to end up than the Silver Marshes. So you might want to try your luck there. No Moonshae Islands as such though, alas. But Castano's building them; maybe he could use a hand?rorax wrote: Meanwhile i would like to hear ideas and suggestions where a new player should start? in general, i would

Ah, thanks for the answer
Anyhwhere would be good i guess....in case needed - can characters be transferred from server to server?
Also i would like to ask if it's possible to export characters into ALFA ? (using the export function from the NWN)
Thanks.

Re: New player joing soon...advice needed!
All characters start in ALFA at Lv 1. So if you have someone you want to make, I suggest you printscreen a character sheet print it and have it on hand when you are a character creation.
As far as server to server, this is an IC function, if you want to start in BG then you can board a boat and sail inland on a river ferry to TSM, or the other way around.

Ok, thanks for the answer so far
i've ordered NWN2, so i guess i'm going to be on the NWN 2 servers.
Few questions :
1.How populate the servers are? i mean do i expect to pass most of the time alone?(not that i mind that), or is the activity based on scheduled events?
2.How balanced the world is? do you see alot of high level characters running around or majority of the players are low levels and advancement is hard?
3. From the available servers to NWN2 modules, can anyone point me where i can find some materials to create background for half orc type of character , or to find more information regarding locations that are built?
Thanks!

Re: New player joing soon...advice needed!
ALFA is meant to be a truly persistent. Yes, server population will increase around scheduled events, but one can usually expect 10-12 players most days at peak times. (for us that's US evenings).
Regarding balance. Currently, at about a year since live, there are a few higher level PCs. I would guess the highest to be 9th with probably a dozen or so PCs in the 6th lvl and above range. Average level probably more like 4th. If you play slow, smart, and luckily it won't take long to get with the flow.
. DMs are fullly aware of the difficulty of playing at low level and will put forth effort to help make it less painful.
Right now there are 2 live servers. "the Silver Marches" and "Baldur's Gate". TSM covers the Silverymoon and Rauvin Vale areas as well as Citadel feldbarr and some of the norther settlement wilds. A half orc from these lands near the Spine of the World would certainly be believable backstory. Just a little note: Expect a half-orc barbarian to be treated like ...well.....an orcish barbarian. Unless he/she goes out of his way to show he is not a threat to villagers and other "civilized" folks he won't get the warmest reception IC. That said, there have been a few quite successful H-O pcs....so don't get scared off if you have a concept you like

Once you are accepted, you will automatically get more access both on the website and the forums. The servers themselves show up on gamespy, but they are password-protected. The password will be accessible to you once accepted.rorax wrote:Alright

Re: New player joing soon...advice needed!
Yeah, should be back within a few days. The average turn around is probably getting down to about 24 hours, but someimtes it's a fraction more, depending how busy people are.rorax wrote:Thanks.

Thanks
I'm eager to play - hope the game would arrive quickly as well.
It's been so long since i've played D&D or on faerun.
last was 12 years ago....it was ad&d 2nd edition...i'm not even so familiar with the 3.5 D&D rules, but i'll learn

As addon question
I am not on US timezone
, which means i won't likely be on during peak times.
I don't mind spending the time solo, but are there "things" to be done solo as well?

Re: New player joing soon...advice needed!
Yup, there are your basic wandering monsters and NPC-issued quests (we usually call them "statics"). Still, the real ALFA fun is to play with others. The modules were not built with lone players in mind.

Re: New player joing soon...advice needed!
You can solo all you want... just be prepared to face the consequences! (i.e. encounters are geared towards a party of adventurers, and no one will be there to stop your body from bleeding out!).
