hardware and fps
I just upgraded computers and would like to compare fps with others out there to make sure I have everything configured correctly. I've got a 3.33 dual core cpu, 8gb RAM, a 1gb ATI 4870 vid card, and vista 64bit. On first login into Silverymoon (in the city) with all the graphics maxed and 1920x1200 resolution, and was pulling 6fps. Haven't tried it out of town yet.
Anyone else have a similar setup? If so, any advice and lessons learned on graphics settings would be much appreciated.

I am also very interested in hearing any advice, as i have yet to spend any coin, but am pleased to hear that NWN2 Runs on 64 bit Windows, but i think now ill be waiting for the next generation.

Re: hardware and fps
shadows are the biggest performance hit in nwn2. Try turning down the shadows and see if that improves things. I have a weaker system than you on XP-Pro, but I'm pulling better than 6fps.
Built: TSM (nwn2) Shining Scroll and Map House (proof anyone can build!)
Re: hardware and fps
All 32bit userland applications run on 64bit versions of compatible OS's. Only things that have to run in kernelmode inside the kernel have to be 64bit. This is because all x86 based CPUs can execute both 32 and 64 bit instructions.dob85y wrote:I am also very interested in hearing any advice, as i have yet to spend any coin, but am pleased to hear that NWN2 Runs on 64 bit Windows, but i think now ill be waiting for the next generation.
64bit is not evil people!

Re: hardware and fps
Grab the latest driver for your GPU if you haven't already. Currently that's version 9.1:

NWN2 is a pretty bad way to benchmark also, as it is not exactly known for being efficient no max settings.
I recommend,- since you have Vista, downloading the latest 3dmark and running/comparing that:

Re: hardware and fps
First thing I would do is kick your resolution down a notch. If that doesn't solve it, then I'd turn down AA and shadows, in that order.

Re: hardware and fps
Also, do you have to run at that high resolution? (Native for your LCD display, perhaps?) The higher resolution you run, the more taxing all the graphics calculations become. Dropping the resolution down a notch or two can easily kick up the fps dramatically in many cases.
Re: hardware and fps
My computer is very similar, cept I have quad core@ 2.9GHz
I run at 1920 with 4x AA, medium textures, and high shadows... usually stays above 30FPS.

Re: hardware and fps
Thanks everyone. I appreciate the advice!
Re: hardware and fps
NWN 2 can suck performance through a garden hose.
The power of concealment lies in revelation.
Re: hardware and fps
If anyone's looking for a point of comparison, I just ran the 3Dmark listed above with the catalyst settings set to max and got: 3DMark Score: P7874 3DMarks /CPU Score 5202 /Graphics Score 9500
Anyone else with similar settings?
