Fixed Spells

Post by dergon darkhelm »

Spells that have been modifed to fit D&D 3.5 rules instead of NWN2:

Just noticed this am

Cure Minor Wounds: Heals 1 point of damage ---good work (AL, I presume)
PCs: NWN1: Trailyn "Wayfarer" Krast, Nashkel hayseed

NWN2: ??

The listing of the fixes is here:

http://www.alandfaraway.org/forums/view ... 68&t=41582

Riotnrrd did most of the work in getting these put together, and writing up the new spell descriptions to link in so people can see what they've got to work with in-game.

The cure minor change is likely the most noticeable of the batch to most players, but wizards and sorcerers will likely notice a decrease in range for most of the "Ray of... " spells (and magic missile) as well. Some spells have had their durations extended as well.

An up-to-date, complete and discussion-free list of changes would be quite nice. We'll need one to put in the new manual after all.

And if someone wants to add that page to the website, I'll be very happy ;)

Did this really need to be done? Was Cure Minor Wounds really that unbalancing? It's hard enough to survive at low levels as is.

+1 A BIG hit to bards, that one . Wouldn't it be more helpful to work on enabling some skill use that certain classes *cough* rogues *cough* bards *cough* sacrifice for but cannot use, rather than take what little is there?

Not to detract from your efforts, Riot.....just...well....ouch!

Cure Minor's been playtested for what, years now, in ALFA's NWN1 (well, and in tabletop PnP). Seems fine.

Thanks to Riotnrrd for all the work.

Note volunteering ends up prioritizing certain work, so if people care about "skills *cough cough*" or whatever, present yourself to AL.

Well, just look at the numbers: a cantrip healed assuredly four hitpoints, while the first level spell heals 1d8+1 = 4.5 hitpoints on average. Add to that the possible indignity of curing only two of three hitpoints with a poor roll, and the choice becomes ever clearer. And when you need to heal in combat to keep someone from dying, even a single HP will do anyway.

It's annoying though to see some of these changes implemented without forewarning. Casters die when they suddenly run up to their target because the range of their spell has been altered.

"But Mr Dent, the plans have been available in the local planning office for the last nine months."

"Oh yes, well as soon as I heard I went straight round to see them, yesterday afternoon. You hadn't exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them, had you? I mean, like actually telling anybody or anything."

"But the plans were on display ..."

"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."

"That's the display department."

"With a flashlight."

"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."

"So had the stairs."

"But look, you found the notice didn't you?"

"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'."

(Actually I thought there was discussion in at least two forums, one of which is probably visible only to DM/Admin/Staff... still, announcing patch / update content as part of "why" to run Worldgate might make sense, I thought that was our norm anyhow.)

I seem to recall this exact argument over the Cure minor wounds numerous times in the past couple of weeks.

I will never question any volunteer who takes time out of their day to work on anything, especially if the work brings things closer to canon. Thank you Riot for your time and effort, I hope you continue to contribute as you just have within the Tech department...I know tech needs all the hands they can get.

Well, not meaning arguing as in arguing, but more as the argument presented (in a civilized way).

M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!

M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
