Static Loading

Apologies, still unclear.

In a party of six today, one person was uncomfortable taking more than one static at a time, in this case the Fourthpeak Scouting 2 and Raid 2 quests. This person considered it to be in bad taste to take more than one static at a time, despite the fact that both are offered concurrently.

Do DMs consider taking on more than one static at a time (that are concurrently offered), in a well RPd, cautious, walking party of 6, to be 'static loading'?

No, I wouldn't raise an eyebrow at this. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I described static loading as doing up to six statics in less than 1 hour as a pattern. I have seen multiple instances of it since I started looking and they are very demoralizing.

Do statics and have fun. That's one purpose they serve. Don't do six statics in 1 hr alone and exhibit a history via logs of doing all the statics a particular quest giver gives in an orgiastic burst of powergaming.

Just so I am clear, are you telling us not to kill mobs because they are static, in a permadeath game? Am I missing something here? If someone is powergaming that they are killing the statics in an 'orgiastic burst of powergaming', maybe RP that the statics reinforcements show up? I fail to see why you would discourage mob killing in a permadeath game. You have every possible tool other than OOC ones to discourage this from your players, and quite frankly, ALFA already has less mob killing (at least that I have seen) than any other PW out there.

Am I mistaken in my belief that the Realms canon is full of adventurers doing exactly the behavior you are trying to discourage?

When "statics" are referred to in this way here, it usually means the scripted quests. The quote you provided confirms it.

I appreciate your exasperation about the time it takes to make a quest, and the time it takes a player to chew through them. I think I did about half the forthpeak ones solo, and take two at a time (raid, scout). and one Settlestone scout...then I got scared off the rest by big men with axes. The fourth peak ones lend themselves to two statics per trip IC.. you're going the same direction and you get double the pay, who wouldn't? But that is when no one (or no one I know or trust) is on. My PC is an action jackson kinda guy, but I always RP that I'm patrolling the area for 'danger', and even talk to NPC's, yell abuse at gnolls and laugh manically while slaughtering orcs even when no one else is around (check the logs). I think /most/ Alfans get involved in RP when it is there to be had.
Its probably less of a temptation to non combat oriented PC's.

*muses* Now if we could craft or build our own houses or run PC shops... we could leave the statics alone for RP and chop wood instead.

Like most ALFAns ,we prefer to RP in a group and we prefer DM quests to static. Unfortunately if DM's arent available (The Aussie group has lost theirs due to feet burning adventures and computer failures), the only things to do are, talk to people, do statics, and kill things, and admire the awesome scenery, all of which can be done simultaneously. Don't get discouraged though... you have a very popular server running....
