A killed PC will at the time of death generate an item that is an interactable corpse. For a short time the corpse will bear the name of the PC....ie when you examine it it will read "Joe Solo"
then after a while it will decay and will be labelled "decayed corpse"
When left-clicking on the corpse you should see a corpse item in its inventory (it looks like an anrgry red face) along with the PCs gold and gear (if you';re fortunate enough to be the first to loot it
). The corpse iotem can be picked up and put in your inventory and carried, then dropped wherever you like.
That said, there is a known bug where the corpses respawn in the place of deatheven though the corpse item has been taken to the crytp or whatnot. In that case you can "bash" the corpse to make it go away..although it may reappear again later
As for what to do IC, let your character's motives determine that. Many PC carry corpses to the nearest temple and RP talking to the priests about burial, while others RP taking the corpse to their underground hidden lab and performing necromantic experiments on it
Hope that helps.

A couple of ways you can handle.
A. Transport body to a temple. (bodies will still show up in the temple...so after transportation to the temple, you might want to OOC use method B.)
B. Conflagaration. (Start a campfire with your pc tools. The campfire actually has an inventory slot, so you can put undesired items in the fire, such as clothing or fishing net or whathaveyou. Place the Skull token that was in the dead pc's inventory into the fire inventory, effectively removing the body from your inventory. Lastly, extinguish the flames with the remove function in the pc tools...ashes to ashes! You've burned the body.)

Just respond to it as you think your character would. Clicking on the body will show you what gear it still has (which may give you clues where it was from, etc)- some PCs may carry bodies back to civilization, some might just rummage through it's pockets and walk on, some might ignore it, others might hold an impromptu burial/cremation on the spot.
To carry a corpse, take the "Corpse" item from inventory. The placeable will despawn and will reappear when you put the item back down again. All gear on the corpse will go with it in this case, and be available again once it's put back down again. This works most of the time, it's just occationally that the bug causes a corpse to keep showing up long after it should have been gone.
In terms of how to respond to it in-character, remember this is a fantasy world with many avenues available to clerics and wizards; much like modern-day forensics might implicate a person in a murder if they picked a dead man's pockets, there is always the possibility of consequences for actions taken. If the dead person is a nobody who wouldn't be missed, maybe nothing will come of it. If it was a revered pillar of the community, and you looted him while his body was lying in state in the temple of his faith in the middle of a city, that's bound to lead to negative consequences.
Just play it in-character.

...Or if you were looting a dwarf and another dwarf came walking along and saw you, you'd probably need a new head....

I wouldn't want to face any of the few we have left on the server...
