NWC is very decentralized as there are very few active moderators and the owners are very much hands off unless there are technical problems with the site. Hence, users are pretty much free to use the resources NWC offers without much restriction.
NWC offers tools for promoting and developing any kind of NWN1/NWN2 event. We have forums where events can be posted, promoted, discussed. We have forums where players have posted their interest and availability for play. You can create permanent campaign forums to more easily organize, share, save what you need for your events as well as add links to your own website. We have a game scheduler where events can be described and listed as anything from open to invite only sessions. User rating system allows you to review someone's gaming history on NWC and see what others have thought of their play/DM'ing.
While some PWs advertise via NWC and run regular events, most of the events tend to be DM'ed campaigns run by 1, sometimes 2, DMs in their own modules. Most events are ongoing series, though a few have a preset number of sessions or even just one shot events.
Most of the players frequenting NWC are looking for some form of DM'ed led story they can take part in on a weekly basis. Some players have MP experiences, but a significant number of them have no online experience at all and are stepping into MP for the first time. Most users probably only check in once or twice a week - some even less, so the earlier you schedule something the better.
At this point, most of the NWC regular DM crowd has decided to stick with NWN1 due to the time issues involved with building for NWN2 on a weekly basis, so the vast majority of session offered regularly at NWC are NWN1, though there are a few NWN2 campaigns underway. Subsequently, there are a fair number of players looking for NWN2 events, around 26 or so have registered in the NWN2 players list thus far.
Posting an event in the NWC calender will not magically fill up your campaign. Even popular DM's have to take a bit of an proactive approach to get a full roster of players for a game. In your initial posting, you need to provide a good description, links to any haks or sites you want players to review and any special rules or limitations. In addition to the calender, it's wise to post an advert in the forums for potential players plus links to the game page in the NWC so players can get all the details easily. Next, you may want to look thru the player connections forum and PM players who've recently indicated they're looking for a game. Finally, you should check back a couple of times or more a day to respond to any questions or comments about your coming event.
Also, becoming a visible presence in the NWC forums, chipping in on various issues and questions posed when/where you can, will raise the awareness and appreciation folks have of ALFA.
In short, NWC can be a great tool for any PW or campaign, if you're willing to invest the time and effort in maximizing what it offers.
Glad to see ALFA's budding interest in NWC and hope you can make good use of it
