Oh hay, thar's posts.

Few relevant responses...

If you are taking up HDM-ship would you be willing to consider allowing all current NWN1 DMs to DM on the server, thereby just "opening it up" to everyone?
I'm not really keen on running a campaign server. My server box's whoopass is a bit limited to persistently host a server that I would approach with a mighty "Meh, whatever." attitude. The plan is to focus on quality over quantity, and try to get the (granted, small) server to pack as much content as I can, something that I feel current NWN1 live is lacking. That's not to say that I wouldn't welcome DMs from other servers, especially if they're well-liked by their players, but I'd rather approach it on a case-by-case basis than post a DM password on the DM forums and say "Come one, come all."

Mebbe I'm a little paranoid, but I like the notion of a security net.

Nalo Jade wrote:How many ALFA servers are you able to host Zelk?
In stress tests, my hosting computer has been able to handle about 250 megs worth of module, with that number going down with every new server (as nwserver has some overhead), granting that where those megs are coming from makes a big difference. A 200 meg module that's 1200 template areas and their grumpy heartbeat scripts will make smoke billow out of the poor widdle computer. A 200 meg module that's 500 detailed areas full of description and interesting placeables while avoiding true heartbeat scripts in favor of pseudoheartbeats that deactivated when PCs left the areas would give my poor widdle computer an easy time, allowing it to sip drinks prepared in half a coconut shell with tiny umbrellas sticking out of it.

To the point I think that's being nudged at, the only currently live module in NWN1 ALFA that I believe I could host simultaneously with Waterdeep with all modules in their current condition, should current hosts go down, is Moonshaes. NC and SD have many memory-consuming empty and/or template areas and Sembia, for all of my efforts to tidy it up, is still held together with many slap patches. I realise I've functioned as a backup host in the past, but WD seems vastly more interesting and fulfilling to me. ;)

I wouldn't mind DMing on Waterdeep now and again but I wouldn't want to cancel out my ability to go there as a player. Conundrum. Be nice if one could be trusted enough to do both.
I wouldn't object, personally. I wouldn't let a DM on my server if I thought he/she was a cheater, a metagamer, or had any desire to abuse his/her position (get the feeling that other HDMs feel the same way), the varieties of cheating that one would perform by having DM access to a server one plays on are easy to track, and meta information is everywhere anyway. (yet amazingly, I haven't heard cries of "OMG meta!" echoing from the corners of the ALFA world in a while. Hmm!)

Unfortunately, this is an issue for the DMA and the PA (maybe on the latter; Demson seems to not try to wriggle into issues that could be feasibly handled by the other Admins' portfolios.) and they'd be the ones to poke if this was a deal breaker for you, with the understanding that if you talked them down to "HDM may approve and provide conditions, but is responsible for controlling meta/cheating." that I would.

Make ayergo load back in that superawesome interplanar travelling magic store that sells every item in the game too! superawesome!
Alas, I don't expect such content to survive WD's re-betaing if it's even in the mod. ;) I've already removed a handful of permanent haste and truesight items, and taken to downgrading tribes of eerily powerful humanoids. I'm a big fan of the PHB/DMG/FRCS; can expect me to try to add and modify content in a way that the final product reflects those.

I am disturbed by your use of multiple "ahh"s in that post.

Good to see things been brought back to life. Tell you what, Zelk, if things are still going when I get the ability to play again (early jan 09), I'll see if I can bring myself to DM on Waterdeep again. Always been one of my favourite servers to DM on.

Yes, but note that...
- I probably won't have time to restore pChests expediently (if I can at all)
- I'll need to rummage for info about an established PC and would ask said PC's player to do a lot of (read: the vast majority of) the legwork there.
- and that I'm not a rules-fudger. If your character is established because he's been coddled, I might frustrate the bejeezuhs out of you. Also might have oodles of fun; tends to depend on how ya respond to genuine risk that actually amounts to plot failure occasionally.

I can help you out with your legwork: Rhekka is one of the masked lords. She will be back, and she will pwn the server with massive pwnage... and stuff.

I would also certainly be willing to help you get your ALFA canon feet under you where I can.

I was terribly disappointed to see the previous effort fail. Thanks a ton for taking this on Zelk, I can't wait!

So... where do you want bug reports?

And.. I suppose, I can, maybe, sort of prettify some of the outside areas with rainbows, gore and butterflies... oh ya. and trees, too.
