Testing Custom Skills (and subdual, and custom descriptions)

Post by AcadiusLost »

I'm hosting a test module today for several systems that have been long in the works.

To help test, you just need to download this file:
http://download.alandfaraway.org/downlo ... lltest.rar

Unpack, then:

Put the two haks in your documents/nwn2/hak folder
Put the tlk file in your documents/nwn2/tlk folder (replaces the previous version)
Put the PWC file in your documents/nwn2/pwc folder

Module is up in PW Story, called "ACR Skills Test Server"
The password for the module is "skilltest"

I've added a copy of the TSM Live servervault there so people can test the automated rebuild into the new skillset. Changes made here will not affect Live, it is strictly a test sandbox. Feel free to roll up several new PCs.

Things to test:

Combinations of taking deleted skills (lore, taunt, set trap, etc) at char creation, adding and removing ranks of skills in the dialogue watching for 'extra" skillpoints garnered

Able Learner: Should get to buy starting skills at 1 point per rank (not possible in normal character creation)

Speak Languages: When ranks are bought with starting skillpoints, it should let you pick additional languages (on subsequent levelups, this is incomplete still)

Characters / GSIDs with " or ' in their names - should work normally

Descriptions: PC Tools custom button 4 now lets you change your PC's description field. Test with other players to confirm this works directly, with login.logout, etc.

Subdual- can be activated using an inventory widget or via PC tools button 5. Those who tested it before know some things to check on here. Used for subduing opponents without killing them.

Please let me know what you discover.

Put the files in their place, but nwn2 crashes whenever I try to log in.

Well done. Most impressive work indeed.

Possible you have custom overrides in place that may be conflicting? Alternate GUIs? I'd also be interested to hear if anyone else has the same problem.

Also, wanted to acknowledge those responsible for some of the systems included in the test module.

Skills: started by Ronan, Icons by Leareth, the rest was my long side project (also thanks to Rob McGinniss of Obsidian for accepting my demonstration mods and files to pass along to the NWN2 patch crew, helping things along for the repairs in the 1.13 patch)

Descriptions: The GUI was coded and designed by Bartleby, and serves as a preview for some of his upcoming work with readable/writable books.

Subdual / Nonlethal damage: This was a huge project, doggedly pursued by Creslyn, though 12 or so separate test module revisions, taking into account a dizzying number of special exception cases and oddities. We'd still be on square zero with this system if he hadn't picked it up and championed the cause.

Custom skills and subdual damage are both huge projects. Thank you to all concerned in the building of these systems. Well done.
Enjoy the game

Yeah, well upon further consideration, this adds dimesions to our world. No doubt others have such things, but as it turns out, we do too. Additional skills with Able Learner integrated at charatcer creation is just as it ought to be.

Subdual will become a staple of quests and rp I'd imagine, and I've seen Cres working on that system for over 6 months...possibly as long as a year.

These are 2 very big additions that will impact the way our game is played for the better. Tremendous contributions.

You guys keep me inspired by continuing to add new dimensions to allow ALFA the most immersive roleplay experience possible..

I have planned to use both custom skills and subdual extensively in Moonsea's static quest implementation. Its brilliant that things have come so far so quickly..

Cheers guys..

I won't have a chance to have a look at any of this for a few more weeks but I wanted to weigh in with my appreciation for all those who have contributed. I have been and continue to be excited by the new possibilities for roleplay that such systems will allow.
