Banning and due process

Post by Rick7475 »

I would like to know the due process of banning someone from the forums please.

I understand LancasterX is somewhat unpopular and he has just informed me that he has been banned from the forums without any due process, warning, or counselling. He is at my house now.

I understood that any player who was going to be banned from ALFA would undergo a due process, including a dispute process with the PA.

I have never known someone being banned for being unpopular.

LancasterX has asked me to be his representative since he is unable to contact a PA.

In his latest email to me, he informed me that a moderator was going to have him banned, the same moderator that was harrassing him. That moderator was White Warlock. If LancasterX is at fault, he would like to know what he has done, as he says he received no official warning. He is willing to accept his actions and wrong-doing according to the charter.

LancasterX has no access to any of his PMs to use as evidence.

I am using this public forum to address a situation that is abusing a player's rights.

I would like to see the charter rules that allow for the outright banning of a player without reason, due process, and informing the person of what the violation is.

Do not lock this thread. If you do, I will re-open it with another.

The truth of this totalitarian undemocratic act must be told.

It looks like a moderator's 'ban' not to be confused with 'banned from all of ALFA for the rest of his days'

If so, he is not banned from ALFA as a whole, he's got 24 hours to cool off. There is no official strike, no mark against any 'permanent record'.

The other sort does involve due process, lots and lots of discussions, ARs and the like.

That is all good, but he received nothing, in fact, he did cool down and was following the advice of moderator 3 and taking his concerns to PM's (he is telling me this now)

He has received no warning.

There was sufficient indication presented that he was likely going to receive a ban for his actions. However, when someone spams the forums, and insults a forum section moderator in PMs, it's not likely he's going to be able to get on the forums to read the specifics of his forum ban, especially if the only means presented to contact him is via a pm on the forums.

Are you a forum moderator, White Warlock?

Funny, he said you insulted him first. Not the sort of actions a forum moderator would take.

Are you accountable? Obviously not. [Removed: Personal attack (#1)]

I made the call, banning him for 24 hours. His posting in the last day was counter-productive and not in the spirit of civility that we are trying to achieve, sufficient enough to warrant a 'cool-off' period.

If he wishes to dispute this, he can contact the PA. As of now the decision stands.

WW, Rick - please keep this discussion civil or I will re-lock it.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

That is well and good. But you need to contact the person either by email or posting the reason when he attempts to log in.

If he is spamming the boards, tell him.

It would introduce a level of democracy and saved a lot of heresay about conspiracies with a simple line upon log in:

"You have been banned from the forums for 24 hours for spamming the forums"

Noted, Rick. A mistake on my part as I'd forgotten to send an email to the one he's provided for ALFA before I went ahead with it.

His access will be restored tomorrow. As everything seems to be resolved I'll lock the thread again.
