NWN2 Underdark - Initial Exploratory

Post by Faeryl »

For those who know me, Vendui' abillen. It has been a long time....

For those who do not know me, I am Faeryl, one of the builder/scripters of the NWN1 Underdark, an old drow Matron from past eras, well versed in the underdark's history, but hesitant to move forward into new ways.

The NWN2 Underdark has been abandoned and is on the verge of being lost into the oblivion of disinterest (my own included). It seems that Inaubryn, HDM of 027 Northdark, has moved on, and rightfully so. He has had little to no support (mea culpa). But sometimes, positive change brings positive outcomes. New faces, new leaders, and new attitudes bring the possibility of renewed interest. What happens next is entirely up to you.

I am looking for initial input. Building a server is a creation of passion that comes from the heart and requires many, many hours of dedication, so please answer from your heart. I am considering stepping up to offer a proposal for a new NWN2 Underdark server. I intend to build it, scipt it, and be its it's HDM. Yet, its creation depends on your interest and response.

If I built a NWN2 Underdrk server:

1. Would you play on it?

1.1 If yes, what underdark race would you play?

2. Would you be willing to DM on it?

2.1 If yes, what underdark race would you be interested in DMing.

3. I am willing to dedicate the next few years of my life to this, what will you dedicate as a DM or player?

That's it for now. As the thread title indicates, this is just an opening exploration of the possibilities....

I would be interested in playing a drow if/when my current PC gets viciously and unjustly murdered by filthy westerners.

Its good to see you again Faeryl. I would, of course, be a part of whatever comes together. These days I prefer to play than DM (as I am sure you recall from our years together on NWN1's underdark, building was a painful process for me) but I am certainly interested.

Hi Faeryl,
Alas, I cannot offer to play or DM on an Underdark server, being rather busy building myself, but I'm interested to know what area you were thinking of tackling. *Nudges her rather rudely towards the area between Skullport and the Serpent Hills ;) *

Excellent. One potential player. Since it will take a while to bring this together, your current character's death is of no relevance to the future of the drow.

I didn't expect that you would build chicka, but you would be one heck of a RP DM if the bug of the dark side bites you. Still, I'll count you as player number 2, cause I know you can drive the roleplay no matter what side of the DM client you're on.

At this point, I am open to possibilities, depending on the interest of potential players and DMs. If the interest is high enough to merit the effort of building an underdark server, I'll be in touch for sure.

I confess to spending too much time in the NWN1 toolset to ever be aware of anyone but my HDM's ideas. Please share via PM if you would like. :D

Hi Faeryl.

Skullport exists as a small, self-contained and largely built module that you are welcome to own, HDM, add on to, or whatever. I'm still working on it adding quests, NPCs, interiors and such and would much rather be working for someone other than myself. It's 2 major exteriors of the city, split east and west, and maybe 30 dungeon/cave adventure areas. I can host.

If this doesn't interest you, I would be interested in building for you as a DM builder on your Underdark server.

Oh, right, and I did apply to DM for Skullport. Granted, since SP is not Beta whatever yet, said application is on hold, but the point of this being that I've already volunteered to DM for the underdark, be it Indio's SP or Faeryle's Underdark - and hopefully, we will combine those two great builders into one team and make a beautiful mod. :)

+3. I know that I and two others would definitely go to the server; I, too, recommend towards Skullport and such.

I'd play any slave race, really, though hins remain as my favourite.

P.S. I can volunteer as a roleplay-based dungeon master, though I'm not sure how you all do that.

That was referring to Teric. He and I worked together on a Western Heartland NWN1 server. There is an interesting way for "individuals" to get from the Serpent Hills to Skullport. If they live long enough that is

Indio, I am intrigued by your offer. Seriously. Working with you would be like...I don't know..working with Lolth herself. I am honored.

Give me a couple of days to chew on things. I hadn't considered Skullport before, but it does meet some of the design ideas I was hoping to implement, though I was envisioning something a bit less defined by cannon. Still... I'll be in touch.

Good to see you too Ven! You know I would welcome you as a DM...always. Sorry to decline playing in your campaign though...I'm on Eastern time and tend to go to bed about the time you guys start playing. (I'm old ya know and my 5 AM wakeup seems to come earlier the older I get. :? )

And Mik love, no need to take offense. Of course you are Lolth. And I am Kiaransalee. But naming Indio as Ao somehow seems appropriate. His passion and skill with building surpasses my own.

It's good to hear from everyone again.
