DMA Recall Discussion for the Plebes Who Cannot Vote

Post by Misty »

Felt the best place was public, and there are likely more than one person who feels as SenorT, who stated in the Discussion thread:
I understand I am not aware of everything Rusty has ever said and done, nor would I want to be. I only want to see anyone say something nice about Rusty, because he only seems to be a source of drama and negativity for the community. From a PR perspective, I'd love nothing more than to see that stop. It's not helpful for me and my staff doing our jobs... and I don't get the feeling he cares.
in his professional role, I've nothing but respect for Rusty. He has been fair and even *gasp* considerate in the times I worked with him. If I could vote, I would vote against the recall.

There you have it. I like Rusty. Even if his PC killed mine.

So there.

I have had the opposite experience, and thus I would vote in an opposite fashion, as I am sure most ALFAns can deduce.

I think people need to look beyond their personal feelings on the matter and try to see the big picture.

The question should not be 'Do I like Rusty?' or 'Has Rusty ever done anything to me?'

If that's your only consideration, that's a self-centered way of looking at it, regardless of your answer.

The question should be 'Is Rusty the best possible choice for ALFA, considering all of the issues?'

Rusty has done some great things. At the cost of a lot of community cohesion.

Rusty has been a huge jerk to a lot of people. But he's a mover/shaker that's gotten things done.

Is his contribution worth the alienation he's created for a lot of people?

Is it really ~that~ big a deal, considering all he's done for the community?

Those are the questions to ask yourself.

Even if he hasn't treated you (collective) poorly, have you seen him treat others poorly? Have you seen the effects his disdainful attitude has had on the community? Have you seen the positive impacts he's had on the community?

Which of these weigh more heavily?

Would your vote swing one way or another because you like or dislike him? Or would you take into account what would be best for the community, regardless of your personal feelings or how he has treated you personally in the past?

He always disappears for days/weeks at a time, only to come back and make as many single line comments as possible before leaving again. In many cases, he's fairly clueless (take Standards Favored Souls, for example), and his manner of "training" is pretty ridiculous too.

Anyway, I find it funny that this is brought up the moment the Lead Admin is changed. Again, although this is a bit longer absence than normal, it's nothing out of the ordinary for Rusty. Why it's suddenly a huge deal now, and the use of Standards as a partial reasoning from someone who doesn't seem to chirp up at all in them...

It's a ridiculous scenario, regardless.

Really, like what? TSM went live in spite of him. Standards was near completion before he became DMA iirc.

He was the main voice against Planetouched, even though previous admin had approved them to be in ALFA, he's stopped warlocks/favored souls and delayed it for no real cause.

So what has he actually done, that hasn't caused more problems then solved?

Jayde's phrasing is patronizing, but to put it shortly, yes, I have thought about the big picture - with people like Rusty its always a balancing test - is the good worth the bad. Like Georage - he was the best scripter we had at the time - but he could not work constructively with other people. He was just plain mean to them. And, like with Georage, in my mind, the answer with Rusty, now, is no, the good is not worth the bad. Too many burned bridges, too much drama, too many alienated people, too much grief and hate and anger and ... well, it just goes on. Its too much, and a change in DMA would be great.

I call on people who support rusty to show why they support him, insteado f just showing they do.

Ive seen plenty of people say rusty has done positive things, and never once do they present mentions of exactly what he has done. Where as every time someone speaks against him, they have evidence.

If this were a court room, the prosecution would be miles ahead.

If your going to post in this thread and either support or oppose the recall, then post evidence to your claims please.

I've never particularily liked Rusty. Arrogance and a condescending attitute generally annoys me.

I don't really know what he has achieved as DMA, however, he has obviously done a good enough job to get re-elected and I think this recall comes across as a tad petty, especially considering how long it took before ALFA allowed prestige classes. How long was that? A couple of years after they were introduced into NWN1?

Different circumstances. PrCs took so long because everybody involved dragged their feet, from Admin, to standards, to the template people. Warlocks/FS/PT are taking so long because the DMA personally doesn't want them and has somehow declared the decision as his and his alone to make at a time of his choosing.

I'm pretty sure a major part of the delay was in deciding whether PrCs would be allowed at all or not. Whether that was because of one person or a group of people, it's irrelevant. If all the Admins, HDMs and staff wanted Warlocks/FS/PT in ALFA that badly and Rusty was the only objector then that decision would have already been taken out of his hands.

Personally, I dont see why you remaining Admin just dont carry things out and get him out of here charter or not. Hes obviously AWOL. Regardless, if he has issues or not ALFA has to go on and if it means an emergency decision by the remaining Admin to appoint someone else then so be it. Paazin I believe is moving back to the states, so he may or may not actually get involved in this issue for a bit. I think Cipher, FI, and Hialmar can make a decision for ALFA and not screw the pooch. Put someone in Rusty's place temporarily and get things done and when Rusty comes back then deal with him. He can explain his absence and you guys can continue this recall or give him another chance (although I wouldnt).

I know everyone wants to do things by the book and the right way, but sometimes you just gotta take charge. You cant let goverment stall because a senator has a heart attack or something else. An emergency meeting is held and someone is appointed in his place. You have no word from Rusty and stalling because a good friend of his says he is having internet issues isnt a good excuse. There are many internet cafes around Europe/UK. Im sure if he wanted too he could get in touch.

As someone who is involved in sport media relations I sincerely hope that the message is finally getting through to anyone in Admin... and to a lesser extent, everyone else here. ALFA is the brand we try to market to a target group of RPers and like it or not, the Admin are the image behind that brand and right now it's been costing us customers and inside talent.

We need Admin who are noted for their social skills as much as their talent to get things done. If it's clear someone can't or won't work well with others, especially if they don't get their way they shouldn't be placed into office. Voters take the blame for that one. Such behaviour is far too damaging so I hope a move away from faction or block voting to a vote in all elections by all members in good standing is accepted. It's needed, badly.

In fact, I dare say if this community desire for voting in all elections is put down the cost will be very high and be seen as nothing more than an attempt to maintain control and influence. It's a game for most of us but far more to some. Rusty being recalled is a positive move and now all eyes are on our new Lead.

The fact we keep having repeated discussions about one guy, all the freaking time because of issue after issue after issue with him, is more than enough reason to sack him.

As a matter of fact, we've sacked people before for alot less.

We need to clear the air. Rusty is a constant friction point. Almost everyone who has had even minor disagreements with him or had to interact with him loathes the experience. He's driven more people out of ALFA than we have banned. The amount of work he does, and the quality of it is both overrated and misguided. If he put half the supposed effort he puts into work into NOT pissing people off all the time, he'd be fine.

If he's really doing something useful for the community, he should do so in the capacity of a staffer. As it is, he does not have the interpersonal skills or judgement for the job and should recognize such instead of trying to make himself the de facto head of ALFA.
