May has been a bad month for mortality and injury. Glad to hear this one is recoverable.
Good news. I'm back in business, on crutches.
It's a humiliating tale, but it needs to be owned. We did some burning off on Sunday, clearing out some old tree stumps we'd had pulled 6 months or so ago. So I piled them up over the site of one such pulled-up stump and burned them. All good.
24 hours later I went wandering (in my thongs) to have a little look-see, mistook a pile of orange ash for clay, and sank my left foot about 8 inches into a pothole of burning cinders. I pulled out mt left foot by jamming my right in alongside it (or I was going to fall over), burning it slightly in the process, but the left was smoking by that stage. Ran down to the dam and soaked it for 30 minutes before making my way back to the house, where the skin remained perfectly intact until my goofy dog decided to stand smack-bang on the sorest part, splitting the skin and making a big mess of things. A week later and I'm out of hospital.
Good to be back. I still blame the dog.
