ALFA PR Wants You!

Post by Senor T »

Interested in helping out the community but don't have a machine capable of running NWN2? Always wanted to help out but drama and flames aren't really your style? Do you simply want to see the ALFA community grow and expand to truly become the largest and finest online roleplaying environment period?

Then join the PR team!

The ALFA PR mission is to educate anyone seriously interested in online roleplaying about ALFA. This is accomplished in many ways, including via our website and forums, the official NWN forums, the ALFA MySpace page and anywhere else anyone interested in what we do would be. All this is in support of the game and RP standards that are laid out in the ALFA Pillars.

This is an enormous task that requires a lot of work, but with enough help, it can be chopped into small chunks that can be bitten off one at a time. As a community of volunteers, I strongly believe that anyone who gives us their time and effort should be accommodated in every way possible. That's why I have set up a task management system where each team member can work on one thing at a time at her/his own pace. Communication is key in working together and I take it very seriously. This should be a relaxing, free time activity that you should be able to sit back at the end of the day and feel good about.

Our team currently is comprised of Myself as PR Head and Avaz as our Graphic Designer with ad-hoc research being done by GodPuppet. As PR Head, I will manage tasks and priorities so you don't have to worry about it. We're ultimately led by the Lead Admin, Wynna and work closely with the Infrastructure staff.

As a final plug, I'll mention that it's been a joy to work with everyone involved in what I do so far. All of our effort has been appreciated and seems to be taking us in the right direction!

We're currently looking to fill the following positions:

Web Manager

The PR Web Manager will be responsible for maintaining all PR web resources, consisting primarily of the ALFA MySpace page. The Web Manager should have basic knowledge of HTML/CSS or a genuine desire and the time to learn. The Web Manager will work closely with the PR Graphics Designer and will assist the ALFA Website Staff with an eye toward the ALFA PR mission.

Community Representative

The PR Community Representative Position will be responsible for understanding the social aspects of the wider online gaming community of which ALFA is a part. The Community Representative will research other similar communities, monitor the official NWN forums and serve as ALFA’s promotional presence in these communities.

[Note: I would gladly take a few applicants for this position. It will be less task-oriented and will require a lot of research and strategic thought.]

Development Representative

The PR Development Representative Position will be responsible for understanding the technical and development community of which ALFA is a part. This position requires a basic understanding of building and development in NWN1 and NWN2. The Development Representative will be responsible for understanding ALFA’s basic technical infrastructure as well as the development resources available within the wider NWN community. The Development Representative will research other similar groups, monitor the official NWN forums and serve as ALFA’s presence in these communities. The purpose of this position is to promote ALFA’s incredible technical resources as well as supplementing them with fresh talent and ideas.

[Note: This position will be less task-oriented and will require a lot of research and strategic thought.]

Copy Writer

The PR Copy Writer Position will be the official voice of ALFA on the website and forums. While the Copy Writer will not write every word, they will serve to develop concise and informative text with an appropriate tone for official PR statements that will be used to market ALFA. The PR Copy Writer will be responsible for oversight of all text on all ALFA websites in order to maintain brand consistency.

Please let me know if you're interested in joining our team and I'll be in touch! Thanks!

And we're also real easy to work with and open-minded to all sorts of ideas and opinions.

And we'll throw in a free cookie!

But wait! There's more! Act now and we'll double your gift. That's right. Two cookies if you call right now!

(A $0.99 value, yours FREE!. Call now, our operators are standing by!)

I'm willing to give this a shot. I've done some PR&M work for an independent MMO company so I at least know what we're talking about here. :P

Avaz! What a chintzy offer! Two virtual cookies? I'll toss in a whole bagful of virtual cookies and the sack of chocolate chips. Demson is our first lucky recipient. Thank you, Demson. Enjoy your double fudge chocolate chunk with chocolate icing goodness. Don't eat too many at once, though. You'll spoil your cheerleading figure.

Seriously, the PR Team has been doing fantastic work. What a bunch of creative and passionately dedicated individuals.

Thank you, guys.
Enjoy the game

No one would think to accept anything from a lowly designer, but... Haha! My master plan* - to goad the Lead Admin to offer up a bountiful sugary feast of an offer - has unfolded beautifully!

*There never was any master plan to begin with. Take this post with a grain of salt. Or in this case, a chunk of chocolate chip cookie dough.

1st off I smell a chocolate conspiracy...

I would love to help, but I am afraid I am at my maximum capacity of stuff.

But I will take a second to offer up an idea, this should work for both NWNConnections and Bioware.

Posting our DM schedules and upcomming games, rumors ect ... into the various webpages will show how active we are and encourage people to join ALFA with the knowledge that once accepted they will hit the door running with a group or a campaign.

I especially like NWNConnections alot of the players/dms there seem to be PnP orientated.

I would be sure to include in all "ads" the many opportunitys for members such as...

Play solo, with a regular group, in a campaign, as part of a faction...

Player content is often accepted and implemented into modules,

Become a DM, and run a campaign for some friends, strangers and dire badgers.

This Bioware and NWN Connections presence is the precise thing we need to target, and it's what makes the Community Rep position so critical. You're absolutely right, by dedicating some effort to doing exactly what you say, we could reap huge rewards. If you or anyone else has a spare hour or two per week they'd like to throw at this or even thinks they might have that time but isn't sure, feel free to let me know. I'll be glad to give you access to our project management tool and heck, your (or anyone's) membership on the team could even be on a trial basis, so even if it turns out you don't have the time or for whatever reason, you can just hop back out of the group without any hard feelings, honest.*

* This is totally a trap. I have complete faith in our team, our process and our goals and I think anyone who gets in the door will be satisfied and won't want to leave, because we'll be so easy to work with and so undemanding. The idea behind our project management is that a very small amount of effort from a lot of people can yield hugely satisfying results.

On a completely unrelated side note, talking in asterisked posts* is fun.
