Combat statics - Improvements

Post by AcadiusLost »

From here on out, you shouldn't have to solo or otherwise act OOC to complete raid/bounty/combat quests. After a good deal of testing and fixing, these seem to be working robustly now.

Guidelines:

If you're doing a quest with others, party up. If you've got friends back in town/etc who aren't coming along, remove them from the party. They shouldn't have their quest progression messed up or gain inadvertant XP anymore, though. In some cases a nonpresent party member may not be able to later perform the same quest until next module reset. A nonpartied PC who snipes the target creature and kills it, still thwarts a party. So- use party status IC, and everything should run smoothly.

If you want to complete a quest together, everyone interested should take the quest, either before or after partying up. Members who have previously done the same quest can be in party without breaking things, they just won't get extra XP or gold for it.

If you don't have the quest, you can still trigger completion for your party members if you get the killing blow, but you won't get XP for it yourself unless you have the quest. (This means you can still take the quest later, though.)

Each member who completes the quest/gets the XP reward should be able to return to the questgiver for a reward, but no PC will ever be rewarded (XP or GP) more than once for a quest.

If anyone observes the system working contrary to this description, please let me know and we'll see what else might need to be amended.

All three Rivermoot Raid quests work this way, as do all the non-scouting quests being added to High Hold.

Good Questing, and thanks to Creslyn for scripting discussion, and Magile (twice), Nuran, and TatsumaruIII for testing assistance.

Question...what if you took a quest before the change solo, but always intended to do it with a party? Can I still get a party for it without trouble?

If you have the quest assigned, but not done- you can party up to complete it. Results for other party members will be as follows:

-Members of the killing party who have not taken the quest, get no XP, no reward, but can take the quest later with another group if they want.

-Members of the killing party who also have the quest active will get XP and completion if the party is successful.

-Members of the killing party who have previously completed/gotten credit for the quest can come along without breaking things, but they won't get a new batch of XP/gold for it (unless a PC pays them IC for their help, etc).

That clarify things?

I have a question (or perhaps it was already answered and didn't realize it):

Suppose you have a quest to do and you party with someone who already did the quest. The person who already did the quest ends up getting the killing blow instead of you. Do you still get the XP and journal update for it? Also, do you still get full quest XP for killing the monster if you are in a party? or do you get less with the more people you have? I noticed this when I had killed a kobold alone and got 33 XP for it, however when I was in a party I only got 1xp. But this happened before the new quest updates went into place, so that's why I wanted to ask.

So long as the person is in the party and you have the quest, you will get your update in your journal. As for the experience notion, the 33exp is from the quest update, not the mob itself, so whereas you may get less exp from the mob in a group, your quest update grants you the same exp no matter how many people are in your group.

Combat XP is divided among the party members, with higher lvl PCs getting a larger chunk I think. At least that was the way it was handled for NWN afaik.
