Choosing language on PC creation

Post by Stefan »

When I created the character, my game crashed during the loading of the starting area, just after menu with available bonus languages appeared. After I reconnected, menu had gone and I couldn't select bonus language, thus I don't have it now. What can be done about this?

Now, it is not that I wish to select additional language right at the start. I would prefer to leave open slot for it, in case my PC learn some language during the game and I was a bit... surprised... to find that option unavailable during beta phase. Is there a way to leave an open slot or bonus language(s) must be selected, after all?

You can ask a DM to help set your languages for you, I learned how tonight. :)

Well, there you go, Stefan. I didn't know how to do it. Darren, can you show me in game?

And I think it's important to fill that language slot, since only a crash left it open for you. All other PCs specify theirs at start.
Enjoy the game

Humans speaking dwarven? How about ELVES speaking DROW HAND SIGN LANGUAGE? I don't think I met an elf in NWN1 ALFA who did not speak drow hand sign language. Could we limit that language to just drow this time around? Or maybe drow and half-drow (since in PnP its on the half-drow language list I think)? Hmmph.

NWN2: Layla (aka Aliyah, Amira, Snake and others) and Vellya

Are Drow and Undercommon different languages, or are they one and the same?

How about people speaking languages that are IC for them to know, or leaving free some slots for what they pick up in game?

Gasp. Revolutionary!

Undercommon is sort of a corrupted pidgin version of drow, incorporating crap from goblins and duergar and all that. Drow is also mostly the same as regular old Elven.

Kind of like modern english is mostly the the same as old english spoke in the dark ages.

Still a bit hard to understand if you don't work at it, and quite a few new words and phrases to deal with.

However Drow Sign language is completely different, and should only be known by those who have lived with drow for any length of time
