We had a go today, but she froze up when she got asked a question. After that, she kind of stood in the goorway to the office and told me things to say, and I relayed them. It's a start. Please don't hit on her or I will kill you.

Just try and ensure you both do not break the 4th wall and everything should be fine. I have to admit, it was tough trying to RP with you when we starting hearing about Leeroy Jenkins and the like :)

I'm glad you got the Leroy Jenkins joke. You are a true nerd. What is the 4th wall?

Its originally a theater term. About.com:
Definition: The Fourth Wall is a term to describe the invisible wall between the audience and the actors on-stage. This is because in proscenium theaters, the set was usually three walls of a room. The audience was therefore "The Fourth Wall," and ignored by the actors. When an actor addresses the audience directly, it is called "Breaking the Fourth Wall."
As simple as i can relate that to computer games, our characters are the actors, we the players are the audience. The actors do not utilize what the audience knows, they tell their own story. That is simplistic, but should suffice.

Your level one fighter (or cleric, whatever) doesn't know that Leeroy Jenkins is a douche in World of Warcraft :D

If not knowing much about the world is an issue (and i assume it would be for your wife), do what i did for NWN1. Pick a single god, read a little bit about them, and then play a character who doesn't let religion have a huge bearing on their life. An unlearned fighter is a great choice of characters for those with little knowledge of the realms, because then you have legitimate IC reasons for asking who all these gods and places and people are :)

It worked for me :D

I understand your point, but thats what I find funny about the joke. I'm not trying to break immersion or anything, and I know heaps about the forgotten realms, and know game mechanics back to front ( eg. Seraphina Thorngage). The thing is, some people RP and take it very seriously and that is great. I work in heart surgery, so my life is serious enough. I play to have some unserious time.

To quote Mike Myers “Silly is you in a natural state, and serious is something you have to do until you can get silly again.”

I'll try to remember the fourth wall, please take my character in the manner I intend him. Just having some fun and hopefully not getting myself or anyone else killed ( my daytime job is just the latter part of that sentence)
