I played myself for a time back on the Cormyr server, but have been away for a very, very long time. I got excited to see ALFA was coming to NWN2, and well, here I am again. I agree the email would probably be welcomed to most, because the thought of all the work that was in ALFA now in a nwn2 setting is quite exciting.

I don't think the problem is so much that people don't know ALFA's here and still being worked upon, it's that ALFA's always devoured its own.

Speaking for myself only, for all of the great experiences in ALFA, there was always someone around getting stabbed in the back.

My early experience with ALFA was nearly ruined by the ALFAquake. I played for a long time, then became a DM and ended up feuding IRL with a group of players, who managed to get me nearly booted from my home server. I moved over to Waterdeep where things went well with Boombrakh and company, until he got stabbed and booted.

Thrasy took the time to get to know me despite my skepticism of someone coming in and working WD with a fresh perspective. I had pretty much hit my limit with the ALFA drama at that point, and ended up resigning, then coming back for a few months when WD didn't have any DM's. Then later I learned Thrasy got caught up in the drama and left.

So, last summer I get NWN2 working, and get excited about trying out ALFA again. I log into the forums and see that Murky's now on the chopping block, and the forums are filled with the same typical ALFA drama.

Now, I'm not going to lie, there are a few people that angered me along the way, and I made my displeasure known at their presence in ALFA. (Namely Phylin, Daramir, Sheriff Andy, and that strange Burt fellow ;) )

What I'm saying is that ALFA probably needs less players and more cooperation. It's very hard to motivate oneself to participate, much less contribute, when there are active people that have done all they could to ruin the experience for you.

*stabs aki just for old times' sake*

Sadly, anyone who sticks their neck out here does so at their own risk, and half the time they eventually get burned. Somehow though, I always seem to find some people I genuinely like playing with.

As for the email, you're right, of course. There are many people that wouldn't... and probably shouldn't for their own sakes... give ALFA a second chance. The question for you is, would such an email be a burden on those people that wouldn't consider trying NWN2 ALFA even if they were informed about it? (Though I vastly hope you're not in this group aki... feel free to roll up a PC in NWN1 NC and stab my toon anytime! :D )
Currently laying the smackdown on Faerun as: Keryn Tel'Jora, who is XXX-TREME!!!.
Currently explaining the meaninglessness of it all as Vizian Nazyr.
Currently pointing out all other characters' shortcomings as Stephen the Archer.

I think it's a good idea. It's been a long time since I was actively playing in ALFA but I've been keeping an occasional weather-eye on the progress here and will be sure to dip my toes again once servers are going live (and my copy of NWN 2 arrives in the post).

I don't think it would be misconstrued as anything other than a FYI. We're talking about mailing to people that were interested enough to have applied and played in the first place so I don't think it'll be viewed in the same way as '111!!v1aGra' spam (for instance).

Sure not everyone is going to bite - but at least it raises awareness for people that would be interested in playing again but have drifted away. The more the merrier I say :D

I'm not sure if this email has gone out yet**, but I think it would definitely be worth mentioning in such an email the ease of the Worldgate download system. Downloading haks and getting everything to work correctly was a big problem for some people in ALFA 1 and the Worldgate client really makes things easy.

Much love to everyone that got the Worldgate system set up!

:twocents:

**I never got one, but my email address is wrong on my member page and I can't seem to get it to change to the correct one. This is probably a topic for another thread. :offtopic:

It seems this thread alone seems to have shaken up the lurking tree and some what I presume to be older members have begun coming out of the woodwork.

I finally bought a new graphics card capable of running NWN2 so I'm looking into this again. Might be able to play with my brother Kalrenath as well.

(I never received an email, this is just interesting timing on my part.)
