Self-nominations for Infrastructure Admin are now closed

Post by kmj2587 »

My apologies for the late start, but March means we are due for another IA election.

Self-nominations are now open. The nomination period will last for seven days from the time of this post.

The successful candidate will serve until September 2008.

Please do not post in this thread unless you are self-nominating.

I'm self nominating for Infra Admin again.

Here is my platform:

Infra Admin main jobs/areas are:
 website and forum developing/hosting:

For hosting:
I think that they are quite okay now and the misadventure with IGN shows that we'd better stay as is with an independently hosted website.
The website seems to work quite well recently and I think that powweb (the hosting company) has, at least temporarily, managed to get enough power for all the website they host.

For development:
I'll continue developing modules for our website like the ALFA projects meters and the DM application part that I developed in my last mandate.

I don't plan to switch to phpbb3 until we are compelled to because we would need to start over and manually copy important threads to the new forum and this would be a real PITA.
phpbb2 is still supported and has seen a recent new version so it's still okay.

 ftp site(s) and worldgate:
Worldgate seems quite the best solution for our haks and pwc for NWN2 and might be used for NWN1 as well.
AcadiusLost manages the uploading part and he seems to be glad with it.

 shared vault:

I have tested several alternate solutions for this recently.
What seems the best so far is a commercial product called webdrive.
Chamu will try it for his hosting and if it's worst the cost then I'll advise hosters to get this product.
If we need to, we will ask the membership to donate some more so that we can buy webdrive's licenses.

 donation runs:

The donations have run very well except for a few problems with paypal.
We have enough for quite some time.

 IRC and forum moderation:
The lead admin manages that for me and I thank her a lot for this.
I don't plan to change that unless I have to.

About me: I have been ALFA's webmaster and main php coder since Haltoc appointed me in January of 2005. Before that, Ghost, Haltoc and I worked on this very website during the post quake weeks and opened the website on January 2004.
I have also been one mirror of the ALFA haks through the BG's website.
Last thing: I have worked on the late hakupdater with Ronan, Murky and Baalster.

IRL, I'm an associate professor in computer science (mainly teaching networks and 3D graphics) at Paul Sabatier University in the south-west of France. Oh and I have a baby girl called Julie who was born on the 31st of January 2008. :)

Thanks for reading through my proposal.
